THE UNSHAKEN LIFE

LISTEN TO THIS MESSAGE AS A CHRISTIAN; ONE WHO IS IN CHRIST.
WE MUST SEE WHAT DAVID IS SAYING NOT AS MEANS TO EARNING SALVATION, BUT AS FRUITS AND PROOFS THAT WE ARE ALREADY IN CHRIST
RESOLVES;

I. THEY LIVE A LIFE THAT IS PLEASING TO THE LORD

a. Walking is of far more importance than talking. He only is right who is upright in walk and downright in honesty[1]
b. EXPLAIN TEXT
Psalm 15:2 ESV
He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart;

A. THEY ARE THE COMMITTED TO LIVING LIFE CORAM DEO - BEFORE THE FACE OF GOD

Psalm 1:1 ESV
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
BLESSED IS THE MAN WHO MAKES IT HIS POINT, AIM, FOCUS, PLANNED AND ORGANIZED EFFORT TO PLEASE THE LORD IN EVERY ASPECT OF HIS LIFE

B. THEY ARE THE BLESSED ONES OR THEY EXPERIENCE THE BLESSINGS OF PRESENCE OF GOD ON EARTH

i. Ps 1:1
Psalm 1:1 ESV
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
Psalm 84:11 ESV
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

1. They Have the Internal Assurance of Being Loved and Kept By the Lord

ii. 1 JOHN 1:6
1 John 1:6 ESV
If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
iii. PHILIPPIANS WALK WORTHY
iv. PS 84:11

Proverbs 28:18 ESV
Whoever walks in integrity will be delivered, but he who is crooked in his ways will suddenly fall.
vi. GAL 2:14 (NOT WALKING IN STEP WITH THE GOSPEL: HYPOCRITICAL)
Galatians 2:14 ESV
But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”
vii. 1 JOHN 2:6
1 John 2:6 ESV
whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.
ix. EPH 2:10

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Psalm 15:2 (ESV)
...and speaks truth in his heart;
SPEAKS THE TRUTH (THIS STILL SPEAK TO A WALK - THERE IS CONSISTENCY IN HEART AND MOUTH)

THE UNSHAKEN LIFE

I. THEY LIVE A LIFE THAT IS PLEASING TO THE LORD

II. THEY SPEAK THE TRUTH THEY LIVE

Psalm 15:2 ESV
He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart;
THE AIM OF THE ONE WHO HAS AND LONGS FOR AN UNSHAKEN LIFE IS THAT THEY WILL ALWAYS SEEK TO LIVE WHOLE - THEY WILL SEEK TO BE MEN AND WOMEN OF INTEGRITY:

INTEGRITY: WHEN YOUR MOUTH AND YOUR LIFE MATCH FOR THE HONOR OF THE LORD

HERE IS WHY IT MEANS TO SPEAK THE TRUTH YOU LIVE

A. WHAT COMES OUT OF THE MOUTH FLOWS OUT OF THE HEART

Proverbs 4:23 ESV
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

WHAT YOU SAY IS INDICATIVE OF WHO YOU ARE

Mark 7:20 ESV
And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him.
Mark 7:21 ESV
For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,
Mark 7:22 ESV
coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.
Mark 7:23 ESV
All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
LIFE AND WORD CONNECT SO MUCH THAT JESUS ALSO TEACHES US THAT

B. WHAT YOU SAY WILL STAND IN JUDGMENT OF YOU

Matthew 12:36–37 ESV
I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

C. WHAT YOU SAY AND WHAT YOU DO MUST MATCH

Galatians 2:14 ESV
But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”

III. THEY TREAT PEOPLE RIGHT BECAUSE THE LORD SEES ALL

HOW WE TREAT OTHER PEOPLE
Psalm 15:3 ESV
who does not slander with his tongue and does no evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend;

A. They Do Not Slander

MORE DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE TO THE CHURCH AND ITS WORK BY GOSSIP AND SLANDER

“taking away people’s names,” “saying bad words about people” or “putting dirt on people’s backs.”

HOW MUCH DOES GOD HATE SLANDER?

Psalm 101:5 ESV
Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy. Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure.
PAUL CITES IT AS AN ASPECT OF THE DEPRAVED MIND
ROMANS 1:28-30-
Romans 1:28–29 ESV
And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips,
Romans 1:30 ESV
slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,
THIS IS WHY PETER SAYS
1 Peter 2:1 ESV
So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.
1 Peter 2:2 ESV
Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation—
SLANDER, AT THE LEAST, NEGATIVELY IMPACTS YOUR SANCTIFICATION
AT BEST IT PROVES YOU ARE NOT IN CHRIST

B. They Do No Evil to Others

Psalm 15:3 (ESV)
....and does no evil to his neighbor,

C. They Do Not Shame Their Friends

Psalm 15:3 (ESV)
nor takes up a reproach against his friend;

that is, he has never so acted against his neighbor as to have been reproached for it. This does not seem very likely.

HE OBEYS THE GOLDEN RULE
Matthew 7:12 ESV
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

IV. THEY SHARE THE HEART OF GOD AND FEELS HOW HE FEELS ABOUT MORALITY

Psalm 15:4 ESV
in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; who swears to his own hurt and does not change;

A. HE LOOKS ON CONTEMPT WITH THOSE WHO DESERVE CONTEMPT

“he does not respect those of whom God disapproves.”

VILE PERSON = REPROBATE
A reprobate is a person who has been reproved or rejected by God because of his or her evil way of life
Psalm 101:4 ESV
A perverse heart shall be far from me; I will know nothing of evil.
WE SHOULD FEEL AS GOD FEELS
Job 32:21 ESV
I will not show partiality to any man or use flattery toward any person.
Job 32:22 ESV
For I do not know how to flatter, else my Maker would soon take me away.

B. HONOR THOSE WHO HONOR GOD

Psalm 15:4 ESV
in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; who swears to his own hurt and does not change;

To honor” someone is to applaud his actions, to think highly of him, to speak of him with praise and admiration. Honors may be rendered by such expressions as “to say he is great” or “to speak well of his name.” This

he swears before God that what he says he will do, and does not change his words” or “he tells God he will do something, and he really does it.”
he keeps his commitment even though it hurts him, relationally, financially, even physically with respect to death
THE MAN OR WOMAN WHO WOULD HAVE AN UNSHAKEN LIFE IS ONE WHO LONGS TO AND LABORS TO FEEL ABOUT MORALITY THE WAY THE LORD FEELS ABOUT IT:
DAVID’S HEART (OUR HEART)
Psalm 119:63 ESV
I am a companion of all who fear you, of those who keep your precepts.
LIKE JESUS
Matthew 12:49 ESV
And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!
Matthew 12:50 ESV
For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
HERE IS A KEY AND CRUCIAL ASPECT OF THIS:

HOW DO WE DEAL WITH AN ERRING BROTHER OR SISTER?

PAUL’S WORD TO THE CORINTHIANS
1 Corinthians 5:1 ESV
It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, for a man has his father’s wife.
1 Corinthians 5:2 ESV
And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you.
1 Corinthians 5:4 ESV
When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus,
1 Corinthians 5:5 ESV
you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.
EXCOMMUNICATION - EXPLAIN
WHAT DOES THIS LOOK LIKE?
PAUL ELABORATES
1 Corinthians 5:9 ESV
I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people—
1 Corinthians 5:10 ESV
not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.
1 Corinthians 5:11 ESV
But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.
1 Corinthians 5:12–13 ESV
For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.”
2 Thessalonians 3:6 ESV
Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us.
2 Thessalonians 3:14 ESV
If anyone does not obey what we say in this letter, take note of that person, and have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed.

WHY IS IT NECESSARY TO CONVICT AND TO CORRECT PROFESSING BELIEVERS WHO ARE IN ACTIVE SIN?

1. They do not need to be fooled about their spiritual state

Active sinning should never be made to feel comfrotable with God
1 Corinthians 10:12 ESV
Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.
IT IS NECESSARY TO CONVICT AND CORRECT PROFESSING BELIEVERS WHO ARE IN ACTIVE SIN?

2. To protect the spiritual health of other believers

Galatians 2:4 ESV
Yet because of false brothers secretly brought in—who slipped in to spy out our freedom that we have in Christ Jesus, so that they might bring us into slavery—

3. To protect the witness of the church against mockery

1 Peter 2:12 ESV
Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

V. THEY HAVE A GODLY PERSPECTIVE REGARDING MONEY

Psalm 15:5 (ESV)
who does not put out his money at interest
and does not take a bribe against the innocent.
He does not take advantage of those who need to borrow money, nor accept bribes.
THE MAN OR WOMAN WHO CAN STAND IN THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD IS ONE WHO IS NOT GREEDY FOR GAIN BECAUSE THEY UNDERSTAND TWO FUNDAMENTAL TRUTHS ABOUT MONEY

THOSE WHO WILL BE UNSHAKEN BELIEVE AND LIVE BY TWO FUNDAMENTAL TRUTHS ABOUT MONEY...

Fundamental Truth #1: Love for God and Love for Money Cannot Co-Exist

Matthew 6:24 ESV
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Fundamental Truth #2: Our View of Money Reflects the Truth of Our Hearts

ABOUT THE KIND OF PEOPLE WE ARE:
do not lay up … lay up
Matthew 6:21 ESV
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
PAUL TO TIMOTHY
1 Timothy 6:9 ESV
But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.
1 Timothy 6:10 ESV
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
Love of money: Lusting after money - the consistent and intense desire to gain more money and increase worldly wealth, and gain a status in life; to keep up with the Joneses
Source: https://dailyverse.knowing-jesus.com/1-timothy-6-10
Root of all kinds of evil = that a love of money can lead a person to virtually any other sin. Greed can enhance, inspire, and amplify the temptation of any other sin, and lead us to disaster.

Fundamental Truth #3:The Value of A Person Is Not In Their Possessions

Luke 12:15 ESV
And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
CONCLUSION

THE UNSHAKEN LIFE

Psalm 15:5 (ESV)
He who does these things shall never be moved.
THIS SPEAKS TO THE SPIRITUAL SECURITY OF THE BELIEVER
IT HIGHLIGHTS A VERY IMPORTANT REALITY AND CONNECTION

OUR SECURITY IS INTIMATELY CONNECTED TO OUR HOLINESS

Psalm 15:5 (ESV)
He who does these things shall never be moved.
2 PETER 1 --
Peter calls us to live out specific virtues: he says
2 Peter 1:5 (ESV)
For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith....
LITERALLY: ADD TO YOUR FAITH
HERE IS WHAT WE ARE TO ADD
2 Peter 1:5–7 (ESV)
virtue knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection, and… love.
THEN HE SAYS SOMETHING SHOCKING:
2 Peter 1:10 ESV
Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.
2 Peter 1:11 ESV
For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
LET ME MAKE THIS SPECIFIC POINT:

The Reason You Struggle With Internal Assurance Is Because You Are Not Living for the Lord

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE INTERNAL WITNESS OF GOD THAT WE BELONG TO HIM BUT WHEN WE ARE LIVING IN WAYS THAT ARE DISCONNECTED FROM HIM WE CANNOT EXPECT TO HAVE HIS WITNESS AFFIRMING OR ASSURING US
THE UNSHAKEN LIFE SPEAKS TO THE SOUL’S SIGHT OF GOD AND ALL THAT HE IS FOR US AND TO US IN CHRIST
Psalm 15:5 (ESV)
He who does these things shall never be moved.
SUCH A ONE CANNOT BE MOVED - SHAKEN - DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE THEIR HOLY LIFE PROVES THAT THEY ARE IN THE HOLY ONE!:
Matthew 7:24 ESV
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
Matthew 16:18 ESV
And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
John 6:37 ESV
All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.
John 10:29 ESV
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.
John 13:1 ESV
Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
Romans 8:1 ESV
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:38 ESV
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,
Philippians 1:6 ESV
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
THE ONE WHO LIVES HOLY SHOWS THAT HE IS IN CHRIST AND HE CANNOT BE MOVED BECAUSE CHRIST CANNOT BE MOVED
THE ONE WHO IS IN CHRIST LIVES UNDER THIS REALITY:

CHRIST IS WORTHY OF IT ALL!

ON WHAT ARE YOU BASING YOUR ASSURANCE?
THE ASSURED AND UNSHAKEN LIFE IS
LIFE IN CHRIST
LIFE FOR CHRIST
