The Baby of Humble Beginnings: As we have previously talked about, Jesus was born to a poor family and brought into this world in a meager little town. Surrounded by animals and lowly commoners.
The Minister to the World: Jesus’s sole purpose in coming to this world was not that we would have a cool story about the birth of a unique baby, but that through the life of the man we would be brought into a relationship with God. During those times it was increasingly difficult to be an educated person, so studying God’s word was a burden on most people. Common folk did not frequent church as often as we might, and their relationship with the ministers look quiet different than the ones that you and I have grown accustom to. The ministers at the time put themselves high on a pedestal, and rarely associated with the common man. When they did mingle with society it was usually in a brow beating manner that left everyone feeling guilty and hurt, though the feelings were unfounded.
— Jesus came into this world, and He sought out the broken people. He sought out those who were in pain, He sought out those who were rough around the edges. Jesus was a friend of sinners. As a matter of fact on multiple occasions the ministers of the time would sneer at Jesus over His willingness to lower Himself and spend time with those who were dirty, those who smelled bad, and those who had very little to offer monetarily.
— Jesus came to the people who no one else wanted to speak to. Why would He do such a thing as that? Because if no one will speak to you, how will you come to the saving knowledge of Him? How will you ever enter a relationship with God if no one presents God to you? And I am not talking about presenting Him the way the world does, but presenting God the way He was meant to be presented. No agenda attached, no preconceived bitterness added in, just God laid bare for you to accept.
(You see, if everyone has a misinterpreted view of a situation then how will they ever make an accurate decision on whether they like it or not? Are all cops bad? Do white people as a who suck? Should we leave the water coming out of the tap unfiltered? If you always listen to someone who puts their own spin on a story, how can you accurately accept or deny the details?)
— Most importantly is that Jesus came to tear down boarders. At one point it was pretty difficult for a gentile man or woman to switch their lives around to pursue a Hebrew God, but Jesus came to throw down the barricades that separated us so that we may walk in a relationship as well. Just as He had intended from the beginning.
The Healer of Broken Hearts, Broken Homes, and Broken People:
Speaking of people, we can be pretty messy. We get hurt, which in turn causes us to hurt many people as well. In the wake of arguments and estranged relationship we leave homes broken and families divided. People break us down, and we are not so great at putting ourselves back together again. When people are brought low, we can rarely soar high again. Not without a Redeemer. Jesus came to mend the hearts of the child who was torn by disputing parents. Jesus came to give a purpose to those who have been made to feel worthless by society. Jesus came to restore the light in those who have been robbed by stinging darts of ridicule and degradation.
Jesus gives us hope. We may feel that not a soul on earth loves us, but we have a king in heaven who gave His life up just so He could spend eternity with us by His side. We may feel broken, but we know that God has a purpose for those who have placed their faith in His Son. We know that come what may, we have a Father who loves us, and a purpose has been given to you and I. That purpose is to serve the Lord, and lead a happy life until we can rest quietly in His eternal kingdom. (BTW to serve does not mean that we are under His thumbs as if we are slaves, but in reality we were slaves to sin but we are now free in Christ to live a life free of our old ways.)
The Scapegoat: A person who is blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, especially for reasons of expediency. In the Bible,a scapegoat is a goat sent into the wilderness after the Jewish chief priest had symbolically laid the sins of the people upon it.
Isaiah 53:5-6 “But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
Colossians 2:13 “And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,”
Jesus Christ came into this world so that He may pay the penalty for you sins. He paid the debt that you and I owed, but would never be able to repay. He made a way so that you and I could enter heaven when previously you and I had no shot. Seriously think how difficult it would be to have to sacrifice all those animals throughout the year just to remain in good standings, and not only would we have to make sacrifices but our hearts about the sacrifice would have to be pure and holly. Ever came to church with a negative attitude? Ever say thank you when you did not really mean it? Or especially have you ever said sorry and in your heart you did not truthfully mean it? The same way with the sacrifices. If your heart was not right, then the sacrifices was for nothing.
Jesus was the perfect sacrifice. He died only once, and He died for all. Whoever would believe upon the name of Jesus would never die, but they would have eternal life in heaven. He took your place in death, so that you may live. He is the ultimate scapegoat.
Everlasting God:
Now that Jesus has given His life for His people, He has taken His Kingly seat in heaven on His thrown where He will reign forevermore. Our King did not simply come to earth, live a good life, die and go into the earth. If He would have done that then how would He ever bring you and I back to life after our death? No, Jesus is alive and well in heaven now. Seated high and lifted up for all to see. He reigns with truth and justice. Full of peace, strength, and sovereignty.
Matthew 5:5 ““Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
