The Christmas to Come – 2 Thessalonians 4:13-18
I think many of us are ready for Christmas to come, but let me ask you this question. Are you ready for next Christmas?
Many of us, if any, probably don’t have next Christmas on our mind. We just want to get through this one first before we start to think about the next one.
What does Christmas mean, well it is the celebration of Christ coming into the world. Though it’s been skewed by the world to take away from its meaning, Christmas is about Jesus coming as the lamb of God.
As a Christian, we like to celebrate Christmas, but there is another coming of Jesus that is like Christmas also. And for the believer it ought to be on our mind.
Now, I know there is a lot to think about with December 25thjust a few days away, but friend I would like us to understand that there is a better Christmas coming. Look here in the scripture.
[Read Scripture]
This might be an unusual passage to preach here at Christmas, but friend this passage is just as much about Christmas as Luke 2. Think about what this passage shares with us about this Christmas to come.
Point 1. This will be a Christmas with a Great Gathering (13-14)
· For many Christmas is not the same for us, loved ones no longer here.
· One of the joys of this Christmas, is those who have placed their hearts in Christ will be there.
· (Elvis – Blue Christmas) There will be no tears for this Christmas
Point 2. Nothing is going to stop this Christmas from coming (15)
· Grinch???
· Plagues, Politics, nor People will not stop this Christmas from coming.
· This Christmas will not be postponed.
Point 3. This will not be a Silent Night (16)
· First line of Silent night – silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright.
· The Lord descends with a shout!
· This Christmas will be time filled with horns of rapture
Point 4. We are going home for this Christmas (17)
· Where are you spending Christmas this year?
· Nothing is like spending Christmas at home.
· This Christmas to come will be a Christmas in our real home.
Point 5. This is a Christmas we are to look forward too (18)
· Comfort in knowing the promise
· Comfort in knowing the place
· Comfort in knowing the person
When Christ Comes Again, Will you be celebrating Christmas with him? Or will you be all by yourself? You don’t have to be by yourself, if you would come to him now.
