Who was Mary?

Young woman, most likely 13-15. Arranged to be married to Joseph.
Virgin
God chose her, not because of her standing with God but out of his sovereign choice (2 Sam 7:12-13,16,
2 Samuel 7:16 ESV
And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.’ ”
What does the “Lord is with you mean?”
Judges 6:12 ESV
And the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, “The Lord is with you, O mighty man of valor.”
Ruth 2:4 ESV
And behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem. And he said to the reapers, “The Lord be with you!” And they answered, “The Lord bless you.”
Describe what is means to find “favor” with God.
Judges 6:17 ESV
And he said to him, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, then show me a sign that it is you who speak with me.
2 Samuel 15:25 ESV
Then the king said to Zadok, “Carry the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the Lord, he will bring me back and let me see both it and his dwelling place.
The issue is God’s gracious choice, not Mary’s position with God or her piety, righteousness. This is all God’s sovereign choice not human acceptability.
House Jacob-traditional term to describe Israel (Exod 19:3)
His kingdom will never end Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Jesus Birth compared to John the Baptist-John’s birth was miraculous because of the age of his parents, Jesus had to be supernatural because Jesus was to be greater than John. SO, Mary had to be a virgin when giving birth, as this would lead to the hypostatitc union for Jesus.
The Holy Spirit will come up you. This is the usage in Acts 1:8 when Jesus is talking to the disciples.
She trusted
She worshipped when faced with a trial
she remembered what God did in the past
She went home and obeyed
