Ecclesiastes 7:2 ESV
It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for this is the end of all mankind, and the living will lay it to heart.
Hebrews 9:27 ESV
And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,
Appointed: to be destined (state) v. — to be governed by inevitable external circumstances (as fate or a divine plan).
We all have an appointment date…
It does not matter:
Financial status
Degrees
Last name
We all have an appointment date!
Solomon said it’s in moments like this that you think about your appointment date.
How do you want to live your life until that date?
Solomon wrote in Psalm 127:1-2
Psalm 127:1 ESV
Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
Unless!
Except If!
Nothing will be accomplished
Unless the Lord…
Builds - to build v. — to make something by combining materials and parts.
Build, develop buildings.
The house?
House: dwelling house; palace; temple; family; dynasty
If God is not the developer
His plans
His way
His will
If God is not in it!
Those who build it labor in vain
labor: to labor v. — to work hard; not necessarily implying employment.
Vain: worthless
Unless!!! The Lord watches over the city.
Watches: to guard v. — to keep watch over.
City: city, town; district in a city; population of a city
The watchman stays awake in vain!
Watchman the one keeping guard...
With out God being in control, my plan and my efforts are worthless!
Psalm 121:4 ESV
Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
Psalm 127:2 ESV
It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.
On a personal note…
It is in vain…
vanity (worthlessness) n. — the quality of being valueless or futile.
That you rise up early and go late to rest...
I’m trying to get the bag
I’m hustling
The early bird gets the worm
Staying up late nights
trying to figure out “My Plan”
Solomon said you’re “eating the bread of anxious toil”
The Hebrew phrase means the food which one has had to work hard to earn.
Anxious toil…
Anxious: experiencing worry, unease, or nervousness,
Matthew 6:27 ESV
And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?
I will not...
Lean on my own understanding...
Seek my plan…
trust in myself as the resource…
“For he gives to his beloved sleep.”

The Lord gives as much to those he loves while they are asleep.”

I will live my life
