ROMANS 8:1

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

So now the case is closed. There remains no accusing voice of condemnation against those who are joined in life-union with Jesus, the Anointed One.

Fire Bible (Chapter 8)
Those who are in Christ Jesus. When Paul uses the phrase “in Christ,” he is referring to those who are in a right relationship with Jesus through faith in him. Such individuals are united with Christ and identify with him in his death to sin and in being raised to a new life. In the previous chapters, Paul has just shown that life without Christ’s grace (i.e., undeserved favor, love, help, enabling power) is defeat, misery and slavery to sin (i.e., our own rebellious way which separates us from God and brings spiritual and eternal death). Now in ch. 8, Paul tells us that spiritual life, freedom from condemnation (i.e., guilt, separation from God, eternal punishment), victory over sin and peace with God come through a personal relationship with Jesus. This relationship brings the presence of the Holy Spirit into a Christian’s life. By following the Spirit’s guidance and relying on his power, the follower of Christ is rescued from sin’s power and set on a course toward eternal life and honor with Christ.

The guilt of his sin has been removed

Romans 8:2

2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

2 For the “law” of the Spirit of life flowing through the anointing of Jesus has liberated us from the “law” of sin and death.

Fire Bible (Chapter 8)
8:2 The law of the Spirit. This “law of the Spirit of life” is the life-regulating and life-motivating power of the Holy Spirit at work within the lives of Christians. The Holy Spirit comes into the lives of those who accept Christ’s forgiveness and yield themselves to him, freeing them from the power of sin and from its end result of spiritual death. The law of the Spirit comes into full operation as Christians commit themselves to obey the Spirit. They find a new power working within them, which enables them to overcome sin and temptation and to fulfill God’s purposes for their lives. “The law of sin and death” is the life-controlling and spiritually condemning power of sin, which enslaves people and reduces them to a condition of spiritual misery and shame.

Romans 8:3

3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,

3 For God achieved what the law was unable to accomplish, because the law was limited by the weakness of human nature.

Yet God sent us his Son in human form to identify with human weakness. Clothed with humanity, God’s Son gave his body to be the sin-offering so that God could once and for all condemn the guilt and power of sin

Romans 8:4

4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

4 So now every righteous requirement of the law can be fulfilled through the Anointed One living his life in us. And we are free to live, not according to our flesh, but by the dynamic power of the Holy Spirit!

Fire Bible Chapter 8

8:4 The law might be fully met in us. The Holy Spirit working within believers allows them to remain in a right relationship with God and to do what is right by his standard. God’s moral law still plays a primary role in Christians’ lives—not as a means of gaining spiritual salvation, but as an ethical guide that is followed and obeyed out of love for God and by the power provided by the Holy Spirit. In this way, God’s grace and our obedience to his law are not working against each other (cf. 2:13; 3:31; 6:15; 7:12, 14). They both play a role in our spiritual growth, maturity and the reflection of God’s character in our lives (see article on Sanctification).

Romans 8:5

5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

5 Those who are motivated by the flesh only pursue what benefits themselves. But those who live by the impulses of the Holy Spirit are motivated to pursue spiritual realities.

English Standard Version Galatians (Chapter 5)
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another
