Relationships that last are relationships that are sincere. Our hearts can harbour some very insincere, selfish & corrupt motives. Jesus makes it clear in this passage that a person cannot be unacceptable to God through what they ingest. It's what comes out - from the heart - that makes a person unacceptable to God.
