In the first half of our Christmas series on how the birth of Jesus is the 'hinge of history', we will be looking at the birth of John the Baptist, the one who prepared the way for the coming Messiah. In the story of John's birth, we see how God is always acting, in ways we expect and in ways we don't, to bring about his good purposes, for his glory, and in a way that is both big and small, grand and personal, and historical, yet also in the here and now.
