The Power of Christmas

Luke 1:31–33 NKJV
And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
The power of Christmas (the birth of Jesus) is not in birth itself. The birth of Jesus was not the beginning of his life but rather a change in form. He was before Bethlehem and time itself.
Colossians 1:16 NKJV
For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
Thus the power of Christmas is that the Son of God would visit humanity. And through this visitation he brought to us three things.

I. His Light

John 8:12 NKJV
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
Luke 2:9 NKJV
And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
Revelation 21:23 NKJV
The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.

A. Reveals our standing before God.

B. Removes the darkness of sin.

II. His Love

John 15:9 NKJV
“As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.
John 15:13 NKJV
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

A. Sacrificed himself

B. Sustains us

III. His Liberating Power.

John 8:34–36 NKJV
Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

A. Provides a life of Fulness

Weakness is Asthenia in Greek and is the same word translated as weakness and infirmities.
Hebrews 4:15 NKJV
For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
2 Corinthians 12:9–10 NKJV
And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
To often we live defeated Christina lives because we are trying to live for ourselves and by ourselves and the whole time God is looking and saying, If you will embrace your weakness and surrender to me, I can be strong in your weakness.

B. Produces a life of His Likeness

Galatians 2:20 NKJV
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
We find strength when our life reflects his light. We are so consumed with reflecting our own light that we have neglected letting his light shine through us. Thats why our light is dim. But, if we will let his light shine then the light will be bright enough to pierce the darkness of this world. Our goal should not be to bring glory to ourselves but rather glory to God.
