The Gift of Jesus
The Gift of Jesus
Christmas morning is a special time of year. It’s the season when we come together to celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Savior and Lord.
On this day, as we gather with family and friends, let us reflect on the greatest gift ever given: The Gift of Jesus.
Through His life and death on the cross, He has given us hope for eternal life in Heaven.
As I’m sure you’ve opened presents today, may each one be a reminder that God sent His son to earth so that all who believe in Him can have salvation from sin and everlasting joy in His presence!
The gift of Jesus is the greatest gift ever given. It’s filled with love, mercy, and grace. It brings hope for a joyous life here on earth and eternal life in Heaven.
Definition of “Gift” - A gift is something given freely, and with love.
It is often associated with special occasions or events such as holidays, birthdays, graduations and so on. A gift conveys a message of appreciation and love to the recipient.
On the night that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, an angel announced to shepherds on the hillside that a Savior had been born who would save the world from sin (Luke 2:11-14).
11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
14 “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
From then on, Jesus became known as the greatest gift ever given to mankind – the gift of salvation and eternal life.
The Meaning of the Gift
The Meaning of the Gift
There’s so much meaning in the gift God’s given us in Jesus. We could go on opening this gift until Jesus returns.
But the most important meaning of the gift of Jesus is that He provides...
Salvation to All Who Believe
Salvation to All Who Believe
By accepting Jesus into our lives, trusting in His finished work on the cross for us, we can look forward to experiencing true freedom – freedom from darkness into light; freedom from sin into righteousness; freedom from death into a new life (Romans 6:23).
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
In Him, we have something greater than material gifts or worldly possessions – we have eternal salvation and access to Heaven (John 3:16).
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
The gift of Jesus brings us so much more than just hope and joy.
It provides us with grace, mercy, and unconditional love that we can rely on in times of need.
By accepting this gift, we are guaranteed to receive eternal life in Heaven as well as a renewed sense of purpose here on earth.
We are able to experience freedom from fear, guilt, and shame as we bask in the knowledge that Jesus loves us unconditionally.
We receive secondly,
Gift of a New Life
Gift of a New Life
Not only does Jesus offer eternal life in Heaven, He also offers us a new life here on earth.
2 cor 5.17-18
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,
The old you was born in sin, completely without God. Your new spirit, or the new you, is alive unto God and created in complete righteousness.
And Jesus continues to provide the power to live a new life.
20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Through Him, we are given hope for a future beyond our expectations (Jeremiah 29:11).
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
As we allow Him to work in our lives, He begins changing us from the inside out.
Through His love, grace and mercy we are empowered to overcome all struggles and fears that come our way.
Conclusion
A. Reflection on Joy and Peace Provided By Jesus - At this time of year let us be grateful for all that Jesus has done for us by giving us His life as a free gift (John 10:10). Let us reflect on the joy and peace which he brings into our lives when his presence is accepted within us (Galatians 5:22-23).
B. Invitation to Receive the Gift of Salvation - Finally let us open our hearts to receive His gift by trusting in Him as our Lord and Savior, because when we do this nothing can separate us from God's love (Romans 8:38-39).
Benediction:
1 Arise, shine;
For your light has come!
And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
