1- The Naming of Jesus

· God Gave the Name – He Would Go By JESUS

· But There’s Also a Descriptive Name = Emmanuel

· Just as CHRIST Describes His Office = the Promised Messiah / Savior

· EMMANUEL Describes --- the Character / Deity of Our Lord

· Emmanuel Tells Us = God Is With Us

2- Yes – God Came to be With Man --- In the Person of Jesus Christ

ILL.-One Sunday Morning while walking to church a man was asked, “Is your God big or small?” – He Replied, “Both actually, He’s so big that Heaven cannot contain Him, but yet small enough to live in the heart of every believer.”

3- How To Have God With You - -

I- ACCEPT HIS SON -- No Room In the Inn ☹

1- Jesus Came to Save Sinners

· That’s ALL of Us -Rom.3:10,23

QUOTE- “If U say ‘I’m no worse than the rest’, then U fail life’s ultimate test.”

· We All Need to Admit Our Sinfulness /Need of the Savior

2- Jesus Came to Pay Our Sin Debt – Rom.6:23; 5:8

· He Took Our Place à 1) By Living the Perfect Sinless Life on Our Behalf 2) Then Taking Our Death Penalty on the Cross 3) Then Providing Eternal Life Via His Resurrection From the Dead

3- All We Have To Do Is Rcv Him By Faith – Rom.10:9,10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

· Believe In the Death / Burial / Resurrection of the Lord Jesus

· Trusting Him FROM THE HEART to Forgive Your Sin / Save Your Soul

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Jn.1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

EX.- Gospel Tract = “3 Things To Do Now That You’re A Christian” – 1) Read the Bible 2) Pray 3) Go to a Good Church

Ø B/c We Need to Get Closer to Our Savior / Get to Know Him Better

Ø TO HAVE HIM WITH US IN DAILY LIFE

Ø Like He Was w/Mary / Joseph / Peter / James / John …

1- Word Is Actually Another Title For Jesus à Go To Jn.1:1-4

· Like Emmanuel, the Word = Refers to the Deity of Jesus

· Jesus Did Not Begin in Bethlehem

· He Was Actually There At the Creation --- He Is the Creator

Col 1:16,17 For by him [Jesus] were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

2- Jesus Is the Word of God In Person -V.14

· Rcv Him as Savior / Then Get to Know Him

v Christianity Is Not a Religion, but a Relationship

v He Came to Dwell Among Us à R U Dwelling w/Him?

3- We Also Have the Word In Print – the Bible

· The More We Learn the Bible – the More We Learn of the Lord

· To Neglect the Bible --- Is to Neglect “God With Us”

· A Christian Should --- Read His Bible at Home / Faithfully Hear It Preached at Church

è That’s How We Learn the Word ((Jesus)) / & Have Him With Us

How To Have God With Us --- Accept His Son / Live In His Word

III- LIVE IN HIS NAME = B/c Emmanuel is God with Us

1- Pray In Jesus Name

Jn.14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

· I Cannot Go to God’s Throne --- In My Own Sinful Name

· EX.- That’s Like going to the bank to make a withdrawal – Where there’s no account in my name

· I Must Go to the Throne In Jesus Name – Not My Own

2- Parade In Jesus Name An Unashamed Public Walk -(walk / live in)

Col 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Ac 11:26 … And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. à B/c They Resembled Him So Much

Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

· Never Be Ashamed to ID w/Jesus / Proudly Represent Him -Rom.1:16

3- Promote Jesus Name (Not X-mas)

Ac 4: 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

· Christmas Is à the Gospel of Jesus Christ – And None Other

· The Only Savior Sent From Heaven to Take Away the Sins of the World

EX.- The Early Church Promoted His Name à And God Was w/Them -Mt.28 … and lo I am WITH YOU alway

· And We Too Should Promote the Name of Jesus /Emmanuel – to This Lost & Dying World

CONCL.- How To Have God With You Accept His Son / Learn His Word / Live In His Name

ILL.- Saved or Lost? The Titanic sank in 1912 – They thought it Could Not Happen --- But Many died in that cold Atlantic Ocean. The scene outside the White Star office in Liverpool was that great crowd of relatives of those who were on the ship ---- On either side of the main entrance a large board had been placed. Above one was printed, KNOWN TO BE SAVED. The other, KNOWN TO BE LOST.

Every now and then, a man would appear from the office w/a large piece of cardboard on which was written the name of one of the passengers. As he held up the name, a deathly stillness swept over the crowd as they watched to see on which board he would pin the name.

There were only 2 categories = Saved or Lost.

1Jo 5:12 He that HATH the Son hath life; and he that HATH NOT the Son of God hath not life.

2- B/c God Wants to be With Us
