MERRY CHRISTMAS!
What a joy to be family on this glorious day as we celebrate the coming and birth of our Savior!
So far as we have focused on the Baby Christ Child… we have looked at and considered:
Our Great God & Savior as the Good Shepherd
We looked at the Dark, Dirty, and Distant sheep that our Good Shepherd came to seek after & find
Today as we come and remember this Christ Child I want us to see & remember our Good Shepherd laid down His life for His sheep as the Precious Lamb of God!
Last night we briefly looked at John the Baptist words as he declared John 1:29
John 1:29 NASB95
The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

The Lamb

People in Jesus day would have understood well the reference to a lamb…
The lamb would be sacrificed… its blood shed was a temporary covering they needed for their sin
The lamb would be spotless, without blemish
The lamb would come from Bethlehem
The shepherds cared for and would look for the lamb that would be sacrificed on the day of passover
BETHLEHEM: means house of bread… out of the house of bread would be ONE born the Bread of Life!
The shepherds that night Jesus was born went to Bethlehem to find The Lamb… the one who’s blood would cover mankind's sin
From His birth… Jesus came not only as a shepherd to His sheep… Jesus would come as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! Luke 2:21; Matthew 1:21; Luke 2:25-35
Luke 2:21 NLT
Eight days later, when the baby was circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel even before he was conceived.
Matthew 1:21 NLT
And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
Luke 2:25–35 NLT
At that time there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him and had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. That day the Spirit led him to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required, Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying, “Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace, as you have promised. I have seen your salvation, which you have prepared for all people. He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!” Jesus’ parents were amazed at what was being said about him. Then Simeon blessed them, and he said to Mary, the baby’s mother, “This child is destined to cause many in Israel to fall, and many others to rise. He has been sent as a sign from God, but many will oppose him. As a result, the deepest thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your very soul.”

Jesus!

“Yeshuah” Jesus is the Greek form of the name Joshua… Jesus means Yahweh is Salvation!… SAVIOR!
Of all the names God could have chose for His Son… even his name declares salvation
Behold it’s Jesus… The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
In Him will be found Salvation!
As Jesus is brought to the temple… Simeon declares “I have seen your salvation”… “as promised”! (fulfilled scripture!)
Micah 5:2 declares Bethlehem as the place “bread of life”
Micah 5:2 NLT
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel whose origins are in the distant past, will come from you on my behalf.
Isaiah 53: 7 declares the Lamb afflicted for you and I
Isaiah 53:7 NLT
He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth.
The Psalmist declare His suffering, death, and majesty… The long awaited MESSIAH
Simeon declares this Salvation is for ALL!!!
All nations would see the light of Christ… salvation for Gentiles
The Jews would see the appearing of their promised Messiah!
The words spoken to his parents must have amazed them and caused them to marvel & ponder…
There is a suffering anguish that Mary will feel in her soul
There is a clear statement made that their son Jesus would
Be rejected and suffer
The GIFT of salvation extended by God through His Son
Would be recieved by some and rejected by some
Jesus bringing Salvation as the Lamb of God would extend a GIFT!

A Christmas Gift

No doubt many have already exchanged gifts this Christmas already.
There is a joy in receiving
There is also a joy in giving
Jesus that Christmas night was wrapped in cloths, given from God above to all mankind John 3:16
John 3:16 NLT
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
The GIFT of salvation was a joy for Christ to give Hebrews 12 2
Hebrews 12:2 NLT
We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.
The joy would be that you and I would find life and relationship with Him! 2 Corinthians 5:15
2 Corinthians 5:15 NLT
He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.
Today as we gather as the family of God we remember God’s plan to come as the Good Shepherd for His sheep and sacrifice Himself so we could revive the GIFT of Salvation Romans 6:23
Romans 6:23 NASB95
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Given by the “Bread of Life”
Purchased with the “Blood of the Lamb”
Remembering through Communion together as the family of God
