Seeing is believing.
Or at least that is what we like to say.
Or another phrase, “I’ll believe it when I see it!”
Is this really true? Reality is that if we think we already have things figured out, or unwilling to actually “see” things differently, what happens doesn’t matter.
This evening I submit that maybe what we need to understand is that...
Believing is seeing.
Are you willing to believe the true story of Christmas?
Are you willing to consider the meaning behind what we celebrate this night, and tomorrow?
Come and see tonight as I share with very briefly what you will see.
Come and see
Nathanael wasn’t quite sure Philip was being completely honest with him about who Jesus was.
Maybe you are the same.
Maybe Philip thought it just “sounded too good to be true”, and maybe you do to.
The shepherds
Come and see what the shepherds saw and heard.
They weren’t supposed to hear of this newborn king.
Outcasts.
They did important work but no one really wanted them to be present for any longer than they had to.
The magi
The magi come to worship the King of the Jews.
Herod, who was the king did not believe this to be good news.
It would be another “gentile rule” who would echo the remarks of the gentile magi at the death of Jesus,
Come and see
This one who would go by different names: Light of the world, bread of life, living hope, Savior, Messiah, Lord, Immanuel, The Lamb of God, Alpha and Omega, Resurrection and Life, The way the truth and the life, the Word.
