This Week’s Theme: Forever With the LORD
This Week’s Word is Heaven: God’s habitation where he is worshipped and served by angels. Solely on account of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, believers will inherit a place in heaven and there forever enjoy perfect fellowship with God in his worship and service.
Memory Verse: Hebrews 11:16 “But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.”
Essence of the Text in a Sentence: God gave John the Apostle a look into the future fulfillment of His promises to His people.
Sermon Proposition: Saints ought to look forward to the future fulfillment of God’s promises living accordingly.
Sermon Objective: I want those in attendance to align their lives according to their faith in the promises of God.
Sermon Text: Revelation 21:1-8
Revelation 21:1–8 NKJV
1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” 5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” 6 And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. 7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. 8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
INTRODUCTION:
TRANSITION:

I. GOD PROMISED A GREAT RENEWAL

Revelation 21:1, 5; Matthew 5:18; 24:35; 2 Peter 3:10; Romans 8:19-22;
Revelation 21:1 NKJV
1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
DON’T YOU REMEMBER THE WORDS OF JESUS IN MATTHEW. HEAR THEM NOW IN LIGHT OF VERSE ONE.
Matthew 5:18 NKJV
18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.
NOW LOOK AT MATT 24:35, JESUS SAYS THAT THIS IS CERTAIN
Matthew 24:35 NKJV
35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
(READ THE VERSE), DID HE SAY THAT HEAVEN AND EARTH WILL PASS AWAY?

THAT’S WHAT HE SAID?

PETER ELABORATES ON THIS SUBJECT IN 2 PETER 3 STARTING WITH VERSE 10
2 Peter 3:10 NKJV
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
Romans 8:19–22 NKJV
19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.
Explain the text through the point highlighting what it reveals about the will and ways of God/Christ/Holy Spirit and about believers, unbelievers good or bad]
Revelation 21:1 NKJV
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
Revelation 21:5 NKJV
5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
DID HE SAY THAT THERE IS GOING TO BE A NEW HEAVEN AND NEW EARTH?

THAT’S WHAT HE SAID?

HOW CAN HE SAY THAT, LOOK AT THE VERSE AGAIN.
Revelation 21:5 NKJV
Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
HE WHO SAT ON THE THRONE SAID IT. THE GOD OF UNIVERSE
He FUELS the flame of the sun
He SET the stars in the universe
He ORDAINS the orbit of the moon
He SPINS the world on its axis
He DECREES the direction of the wind
He is:
the wisdom of the wise,
the Power of the powerful,
the Ancient of days,
the Ruler of rulers,
the Leader of leaders,
the Overseer of the overcomers,
and the Sovereign Lord of all that was and is and is to come.
THIS IS WHY HE SAYS IN VERSE SIX
Revelation 21:6 NKJV
6 And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.

II. GOD PROMISED A GREAT REWARD

Revelation 21:3-4, 6-7; Ezekiel 37:27; Jeremiah 31:33; 2 Corinthians 6:16;
Revelation 21:3 NKJV
And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.

HIS COMPANY

HAVEN’T YOU HEARD THIS BEFORE
Ezekiel 37:27 NKJV
My tabernacle also shall be with them; indeed I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
JEREMIAH SAID
Jeremiah 31:33 NKJV
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
LISTEN TO PAUL
2 Corinthians 6:16 NKJV
And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”

HIS CLEARING

Revelation 21:4 NKJV
4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

HIS COMP

Revelation 21:6–7 NKJV
6 And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. 7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.
HEIR OF GOD
HIS RICHES ARE OUR RICHES
HIS RESOURCES ARE OUR RESOURCES
HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS IS OUR RIGTHEOUSNESS
HIS PRIVILEGES ARE OUR PRIVILEGES
HIS POWER IS NOW OUR POWER
HIS POSITION IS NOW OUR POSITION

BECAUSE OF MY TREASURES
FAITH WORTH KEEPING

III. GOD PROMISED A GREAT RULING

Revelation 21:8;
Revelation 21:8 NKJV
8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Explain the text through the point highlighting what it reveals about the will and ways of God/Christ/Holy Spirit and about believers, unbelievers good or bad]
1 Corinthians 6:9–10 NKJV
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
Ephesians 5:5 NKJV
5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Galatians 5:19–21 NKJV
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

CONCLUSION: WHAT SHOULD YOU DO BECAUSE GOD SAID GREAT RENEWAL, GREAT REWARD, GREAT RULING

LOOK FOR IT

2 Peter 3:10–12 NKJV
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
Hebrews 13:14 NKJV
14 For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come.
2 Corinthians 4:16–18 NKJV
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

LIVE FOR IT

2 Peter 3:14–15 NKJV
14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,
1 John 3:2–3 NKJV
2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
