The Birth of the Prince of Peace

Intro: The Stage is set
Isaiah 8:21–22 CSB
They will wander through the land, dejected and hungry. When they are famished, they will become enraged, and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God. They will look toward the earth and see only distress, darkness, and the gloom of affliction, and they will be driven into thick darkness.
This is the stage of the world- Distress, darkness, and the gloom of affliction.
Often times when people go through times like this they blame God for it.
Why would God allow these things to happen
Awful things
Terrible things
“If God is so Good why do bad things happen?”
“Why would God allow this to happen to me?”
Isaiah says “They will curse God.” They blame Him for their problems and the problems of this world.
But Isaiah say, and history attests to
Sin leads to suffering-
Whether that is our own suffering or we cause others suffering
Sin leads to death
Logically- If there is no sin there is no darkness
no suffering
no murder
no sickness
no abuse
no addiction
no abandonment
no broken families
God hates Sin
Sin angers God because it leads to death
The Remedy of the World’s Misery
Isaiah 9:2–7 CSB
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness. You have enlarged the nation and increased its joy. The people have rejoiced before you as they rejoice at harvest time and as they rejoice when dividing spoils. For you have shattered their oppressive yoke and the rod on their shoulders, the staff of their oppressor, just as you did on the day of Midian. For every trampling boot of battle and the bloodied garments of war will be burned as fuel for the fire. For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the Lord of Armies will accomplish this.
The people who walked in Darkness-
This isn’t wishful thinkings- it is not passive-
It is active- those who walked have had their eyes opens to the surprising joy that has broken through the darkness of sin and distress
John 1:5 CSB
That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.
Jesus is the Light of The world-
He shines in the darkness and bring the Joy of Salvation!
2 Corinthians 4:6 CSB
For God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of God’s glory in the face of Jesus Christ.
Luke 1:78–79 CSB
Because of our God’s merciful compassion, the dawn from on high will visit us to shine on those who live in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
God sent Light because of the Darkness- Because of our sin
Because of the brokenness of this world
Because of the distress
God is Merciful and full of compassion for you, for me, for our families and friends, for this world!
God loves you and doesn’t want you to stay in darkness and distress, so He sent the light and hope of the world, Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the Prince of Peace!
