It’s a fantastic thought that God would want to come and be with us on this earth, but that’s exactly what He wanted. At this point, we all know that God was looking to save His people. He wanted a relationship with us, so Jesus came to establish His Father's will.
God With Us
God With Us
But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
They shall call Him Immanuel, God with us! The full will of God will be worked out through Jesus, He longs to be with us. In two miraculous events, His will was accomplished…
It Is Finished
It Is Finished
Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
Some of those who stood by, when they heard that, said, “Look, He is calling for Elijah!” Then someone ran and filled a sponge full of sour wine, put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink, saying, “Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to take Him down.”
And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last.
Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. So when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, “Truly this Man was the Son of God!”
Jesus on that old rugged cross said “It is finished!”. Relationship with God had been restored to what God was wanting all along. Now anyone could come and talk to God on their own. The middle man had been removed.
You Are The Inn
You Are The Inn
God no longer has to live inside some man-made temple where only the priest could come in. He now has a new temple to live in, inside of you and me. You can’t get any closer to God than that!!!
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
I believe that based on the scripture we’ve read here that there’s sufficient evidence of God’s longing for a relationship with you. The problem hasn’t ever been whether or not God would want you. He’s done everything He can to have you. The problem is “Do you want Him?” As beautiful as the Christmas story is there’s a statement that sticks out to me this year…
You Are The Inn Keeper
You Are The Inn Keeper
And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
In our world today we have so many things competing for our attention that if we’re not careful we’ll shut Jesus out in the cold. Today we are at a critical point, where the vast majority of people including believers are losing Jesus. Sadly, it happens without us noticing.
It used to be that people would ride horses for days to get a revival. They would show up covered in dust, so much so they would look like ghosts when they finally arrived. Today we’re in danger of losing that! If we’re looking at church, prayer, outreach, etc. as a burden rather than something to enjoy we may be in trouble. If you are struggling to fit God into your schedule of events, you are in trouble. We may be dangerously close to nothing more than lip service while keeping Him far from our hearts.
I encourage you as the Inn keeper to make room for Him at the Inn…
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Choose life, choose Christ above everything else. It’s not a matter of whether or not He wants to be with you. He wants to be with you! It’s really whether or not you have room for Him.
