14 So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
When we consider profound truths about Salvation we think about the death burial and resurrection.
But we rarely think about Satans defeat. Since he was the one who initiated the idea of rebellion against God. Satan is usually the last thing that comes to mind.
Thats unfortunate because satans desire is for us not to acknowledge him and his influence.
Satans work in the cosmos is often under looked.
Rarely will the deceiver be accused of any wrong.
Rarely does the spot light get put on the accuser only on the ones who acted out the offence.
You can easily have friends who encourage you to go and step out on your marriage, and you step up and things go left. The friend is never called into question but only the offender. But the one who encouraged you in the sin is just as guilty but they never got called out. This is satans job behind the seen he sets up and deceives
In life Satan rarely gets called out. but here God condemns satan
The cleverness of the serpent was distinguished from all the other animals. In Gen 3:1 “1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.....
But Now the curse of the serpent is distinguished from all the other animals.
Gen 3:14 “14 So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life.”
-cursed more then the cattle
-cursed more then then Every beast in the field
You have the serpent being more cunning then all the animals, now hes more cursed then all the animals.
Though satan was fallen at this point he’s even made lower then what he was.
But does the punishment fit the crime?
Lord why didn’t you just deal with him wipe him out!
Its like man died but satan didn’t die. Like whats up with that!
Ge. 18:25 “25 Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked; far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?””
Look at David he got away with murder didn’t he?
The Bible Knowledge Commentary 3:14–19
Satan would cripple mankind (you will strike at his heel), but the Seed, Christ, would deliver the fatal blow (He will crush your head).
We think about the bruise heel and thats Satans hostility toward all mankind.
We see Satan bruising the heels of Christ
We see Satan bruising the heels of Christ with Cain as he murders his own brother.
We see Satan bruising the heels of Christ , with the story of Noahs Ark and at that time there was evil continually and God flood the whole earth with the exception of 8 people.
We see Satan bruising the heels of Christ when Pharaoh asked the midwives to kill all Hebrew male babies. Also order them to be thrown in the river.
We see Satan bruising the heels of Christ when Gods own people who He made a nation begin worshipping false gods.
We see Satan is bruising the heels of Christ when believers become indifferent towards God and His Word.
We see Satan bruising the heels of Christ when we fail to be followers of Christ and are consumed with mammon.
Jesus speaks of no half measures; the slave will be linked to the two by hatred or love, by devotion or contempt, and in each case the one attitude rules out the other. There can be no half measures.
You cannot devote yourself wholly to God and wholly to money its a impossibility.
We are image barriers of God so every time we are operating outside of Gods will its Satan bruising the heels of Christ.
Jesus bruising the head of the serpent. Is God becoming a man.
Is. 7:14 “14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”
Matt 1:23 “23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.””
The primary goal in the garden was for Satan to try to take away God being with his people.
God not only is with His people but He is in His people.
John 14:17 “17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”
