The Birth of Jesus Christ

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ[e] took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed[f] to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:
23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel”
(which means, God with us). 24 When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, 25 but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.

The Four Connections of Hope. Hope is Desired from one’s Present Context of Life:

Joseph has a crises
Joseph has decision
Humanity finds itself in circumstances where hope is the only alternative desired. This is because we do not like the current choices. There must be another option.
Hope is Desired from one’s Present Context of Life:
Joseph has a crises
Joseph has decision
Humanity often finds itself in circumstances where hope is the only alternative desired. This is because we do not like, accept the current choices. There must be another option. As believers in Christ, we must exemplify the hope we have in Christ. Biblical and believing hope that shows our choices are better than those without Christ.

Hope Connects to the Heart- The heart is the location of the deepest struggles of desire and decision. It is troubled from the beginning. It is here where Hope first appears. Hope must relieve the heart of the conflict and replace it with confidence.

Hope Connects to the Oneness of our Desires- Oneness with life is known as harmony and tranquility. Oneness is lost in relationships, and we hope… Decisions are wrestled with when they connect to a relationship. Sin’s impact brought about a profound loss of oneness. Satan enticed Eve to choose her desire over her relationship with God.

In the heart is where we hold our deepest convictions. But here is a conflict of convictions. -
Fatherhood… and that of a Son! This is only one point of a man’s desires; there are others. The impact of this shocking news of a pregnant woman would be that wife changes decisions. Again, commentator Turner says, By naming Mary’s son, Joseph was accepting legal paternity. By naming him Jesus, Joseph was making a statement about Jesus’ redemptive mission: “he will save his people from their sins.”

Hope Connects to our Priorities- In our passage, we find Joseph realizing his priorities were colliding. His character as a righteous, upright man reveals a steady character.

Hope Connects to Estate- The “all” of who we are… The psalmists said, “where does my help come from?”

Jerimiah 29:11 ~ my plans are to give you a hope and a future.

Romans 15:13 ~ May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Isaiah 40:31 ~ But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
1 Peter 1:3 ~ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
Luke says, Jesus, is the hope of the world. Paul told Timothy, Jesus is our hope. Hebrews explains the station of this Hope.

The Journey of Hope will connect to our lives when we find our Hope in Christ. Our Hope in Christ makes us Agents of Peace for Christ.

The Biblical HOPE found in Jesus is not like the hoping for a certain present, nor is it the grown-up Christmas list hoping of peace, etc. It is being the ambassador of peace in the world because that is who we are one with…The Prince of Peace. Followers of Jesus are Agents of Peace.
How? Aiding those in need, loving the neighbor, and healing the wounded relationships of misunderstandings or plain abuse. We are agents of peace when we share with others in a season of turmoil or agitation. As agents of Peace, we watch and listen for opportunities to share the love of Christ in tangible ways and in an invitation to enlist other agents of Peace.
