Last week, we had the prelude: the birth of John the Baptist, a man who represented Israel’s history as God’s people. This week, we have the main event, which the birth of John all pointed us to: the birth of Jesus, the Son of God. In this story of his foretelling and birth, we can see how there was and is and will forever be no-one like him, and how his birth, which we remember at this time every year, is meant to be a cause for us to have eternal joy. The birth of Jesus is the beginning of the end of the story of the world, but it is an end-without-end, the perfect, ongoing conclusion to God’s work of creation. Speaker: Jordan Gommer
