Sermon Notes: Matthew 20:28

Jesus is the Son of Man:

“I kept looking in the night visions,

And behold, with the clouds of heaven

One like a Son of Man was coming,

And He came up to the Ancient of Days

And was presented before Him.

“And to Him was given dominion,

Glory and a kingdom,

That all the peoples, nations and men of every language

Might serve Him.

His dominion is an everlasting dominion

Which will not pass away;

And His kingdom is one

Which will not be destroyed.”

The Son of Man came:

Jesus’ Coming implies __________ & His ___________.

Jesus came not to be served but to serve:

Jesus’ Serving is unexpected because of who He is.

Jesus’ Served by Giving His Life as a Ransom.

A ransom is a price paid to deliver or free someone.

Jesus’ gave His life as a substitutionary payment.

“as a ransom for (‘in place of’ or ‘instead of’ ) the many.”

His life and death replaced the life and death of “the many.”

Isaiah 53:11-12, “As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, As He will bear their iniquities. (12) Therefore, I will divide for Him a portion with the many, And He will divide the spoil with the strong; Because He poured out His soul to death, And was numbered with the transgressors; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the transgressors.”

Jesus ransomed us from:

Who does His ransom apply to?

Acts 13:38-39, “Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.”

Paul describes it this way, “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; (10) for with the heart a person believes resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation” (Romans 10:9-10).

Application: Since we have been bought by His blood:

Give ___________.

Value the __________

Flee____________. Live a life of ____________.

_________ one another.

Main Idea:

Jesus’ coming from heaven to earth shows us His pre-existence which reveals His divine nature.

His serving is shown in His ransom which releases us from the power of sin, the punishment of death, the rule of the devil, and the wrath of God.

Coming to Jesus results in gratitude for the believer for Jesus’ sacrifice, seeing the value of God’s church, living a life of holiness and purity to our Master and serving one another.
