1 Corinthians 16:15 KJV 1900
15 I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,)

I. Introduction

A. God is faithful to those that are addicted to Him the service of His kingdom!

Genesis 12:1–3 KJV 1900
1 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

B. David was addicted to the service of the Lord, and God promised him that David’s throne would be established forever.

2 Samuel 7:16 KJV 1900
16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

II. The result of an addiction.

A. In the real world that we live in there are addictions that drive people day in and day out.

1. People with addictions wake up every morning with one thing in mind and that is to get their next fix regardless the side effects of their actions or how they will even get that fix!

2. These people DO NOT care what other people think about them, they just need another fix.

3. They don’t care how much effort they have to put into getting that next fix.

4. They don’t care who they hurt, or who they have to connive, but they have to get that next fix.

5. It’s the only thing that they can think of, I NEED THAT FIX!

B. This is how we ought to feel about our relationship with God!

1. This thing ought to eat us up! The zeal for anything pertaining to Him ought to eat us up! The Psalmist said this very thing and when the disciples saw Jesus in action when He went thrashing through the House of God, they remembered what the Psalmist said as well.

Psalm 69:9 KJV 1900
9 For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; And the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.
John 2:17 KJV 1900
17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.

i. I think that if it was eating up Jesus, then it ought to eat up the people in which He dwells!

2. Moses and the Apostle Paul both back this up and explain why we ought to be eaten up by this addiction of serving and of the House of God.

Deuteronomy 4:24 KJV 1900
24 For the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.
Hebrews 12:29 KJV 1900
29 For our God is a consuming fire.

i. God Himself is a CONSUMING fire; this is why you will be eaten up by an addiction to serve Him.

ii. Jeremiah was eaten up by this consuming fire.

Jeremiah 20:9 KJV 1900
9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, Nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, And I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
a. He tried to hold in this consuming fire, but he couldn’t!

III. Closing

A. Do you have a passion every morning you wake up?

B. Does your relationship with God consume your thoughts?

C. Can you go days without getting your “fix” of Him?

D. Do you feel that fire down inside driving you to stay committed to Him?

Are you consumed by Him?
