I. The remnant are Called by God.

a. The surviving or historical remnant[1] is the concept that God always has a people that He calls his remnant. The terminology of the Old Testament remnant motif is represented by six Hebrew roots: serach (“be left over, remain”), plṭ (“escape”), mlṭ (“escape”), yâthar ytr (“remain over, be left over”), śrd (“run away from;” śārîd, “survivor”), and ’aḥarît (“posterity, remnant”).[2] In the the New Testament translated into Greek words formed from leimma/leipō (“remnant, remainder/leave behind”)[3]The remnant theme according to Gerhard Hasel, “moves through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation as a red thread. They- that is the remnant are called out- not because the they are better than any other group of people; the Scripture however says that Noah was a ‘just man and perfect in his generation, and that Noah walked with God” (Genisis 6:9). Secondly the Lord said to Noah “thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation” (Genesis 7:1). And finally, Noah did “all that God commanded him” (Genesis 6:22). Not that they were perfect; because Noah became a drunk according to Genesis 9:21. It seems as if the remnant are so called because of the sheer grace of God. The label “faithful remnant” does not point to self-achievement. Rather, as Hasel demonstrates, the faithful remnant is a remnant of grace. For example, though both Noah and Lot were “righteous” (Gen 6:9; 18:23–32), their righteousness was not meritorious, but they were the recipients of God’s “grace” and “mercy” (Gen 6:8; 19:16, 19). Thus, “the salvation of a remnant is not due to merit on the part of the remaining survivors but to the grace of Yahweh.”[4]

The problem is that the remnant is to proclaim a life saving message when people don’t think that they need saving; the remnant are to tell people that the end of time is fast approaching and Jesus soon will come but sceptics say fram my eye deh a my knee mi a hear dat an Im nuh come yet. The remnant has to tell people to come out babylon-out of confusion-out of false religions and get away from false preachers when people are saying that we are arrogant and dogmatic. The remnant are preaching that the ten commandments are still binding for all when people are saying that we are legalists and the 7th day Sabbath was for the Jews. The remnant hold the testimony of Jesus. according to Revelation 19:10 … for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” the remnant believe that This was manefested in the life and ministry of Ellen G. White, but people are still refering us a cult.

Toward a Theology of the Remnant: An Adventist Ecclesiological Perspective I. Nature of the Remnant

The remnant is also God’s instrument for the preservation of God’s revelation. It is because of them that “the true faith revealed to His prophets … will not become extinct.”26 The implication is that God has always “preserved a remnant to serve Him” and thus “preserved from age to age the precious revealing of His will.”27 Abraham became “the inheritor of this holy trust”28 and to him God gave “a distinct knowledge of the requirement of His law and of the salvation that would be accomplished through Christ.”29 That holy trust was preserved through God’s remnant people. Concerning the remnant of Israel that returned from exile, Ellen G. White pointed out that although they were a feeble people, “through them God purposed to preserve in the earth a knowledge of Himself and of His law. They were the guardians of the true worship, the keepers of the holy oracles.”

But the dragon the devil is wrought with the woman and went to make war with the remnant through scepticism, materialism, and post-mondernism. The dragon makes war throught evolution, idol worship and politics. The dragon makes war through Sunday sacredness, alternate lifestyle and spiritism, but the remnant, In the midst of false doctrines and false christ’s we still believe and preach that The Bible, Old and New Testaments, are the written Word of God; we still believe There is one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, a unity of three coeternal Beings; we still believe that God created the heavens and the earth is six literal days and rested the seventh day; we still believe that man and woman were created in God’s image and likeness and though fallen we did not evolve into existence; All humanity is now involved in a great controversy between Christ and Satan; we still believe and preach that God so loved that world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life; we still believe and preach that baptism is by immersion and he that believes and is baptized the same shall be saved; we still believe and preach that The of gift prophecy is one identifying marks of the remnant church and we believe it was manifested in the ministry of Ellen G. White; we still believe and preach the ten commandments are still binding on all mankind including the fourth commandment Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

God has His children in all churches, but through the remnant church He proclaims a message that is to restore His true worship by calling His people out of the apostasy and preparing themfor Christ’s return. Recognizing that many of God’s people have yet to join them, the remnant sense their inadequacies and weaknesses when they try to fulfill this solemn mission. they realize that it is only through God’s grace that they can accomplish their momentous task.

2. (To “Dear Friends,” June 8, 1859.)The design of the truth is to elevate the receiver, to purify him from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit. I was shown that we are looked upon as a degraded people. We are a sect everywhere spoken against, and unless we do take an elevated position, we are miserable representatives of the truth and we stand in the way of those who would believe the truth. Our lives, our acts, must be so circumspect and faultless as to commend the truth to unbelievers, especially to those who have any disposition to receive it. The truth is to elevate, to cleanse, to purify, to sanctify, to fit us for translation, prepare us for the company of holy angels, sinless beings in the kingdom of God.
