I. You may have admirable goals for the New Year.
(health) lose 10 pounds by March 1st, (fiscal) eliminate your smallest debt, or (personal) prepare and plan for the dream vacation.
II. Your vision determine whither you arrive at your destination.
III. Without vision, the first obstacle will blockade your progress.
IV. The destination needs to be set before you begin.
V. Our destination was made for us at the beginning of creation (Gen 1:27).
VI. Our destination is to become the image-bearers of God.
VII. What is the image we are to become or where is my destination (Rom 8:28-29)? The destination of humanity is to conform to the image of Jesus, the visible person of the Godhead.
VIII. Why do we often fail to get to our destination? It’s because we lack vision and action plan. Additionally we need the grace of God to help us become like the image of the Son. (Pottery illustration)
Step one: Choose your clay and immerse it (Baptism).
Step two: Shape it on the wheel and add more water (Conform).
Step three: Kiln the clay and perfected it (Glorify).
Step four: The master enjoys his potter (Relationship).
IX. We seek the vision of God and allow him to apply his grace unto us. We must become as his Son in all things.
The image-bearers of the Son live in community.
The image-bearers of the Son live in Scripture.
The image-bearers of the Son live in love.
X. Know your destination and live for the Son.
