Luke 16:26 (KJV 1900)
And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
You likely know the story of the Rich man and Lazarus.
Full account read Luke 16:19-31
Have someone tell the story…
Rich man has everything, perfect life
Lazarus has nothing but pain and misery.
Both die and the rich man is condemned to hell and Lazarus is in Abraham’s bosom.
Rich man begs for mercy, “send Lazarus with a drop of water...”
But he can’t be sent! Why?
There is a gulf between the rich man and Lazarus.
Holman’s Bible Dictionary: gorge or pit
Look carefully at Lk16.26
Why could Lazarus not go to the rich man?
Luke 16:26 NLT
26 And besides, there is a great chasm separating us. No one can cross over to you from here, and no one can cross over to us from there.’
First question: How do you cross a gorge or a pit?
YOU BUILD A BRIDGE!
Second question: If the rich man was in hell, wanting God to send someone to him… has that ever been done?
Has someone from heaven entered hell?
Yes, Jesus took the keys of death hell and the grave!
So if God would tell the rich man it could not be done because of the pit… then when Jesus was done in hell HE MUST HAVE BURNED THE BRIDGE!
Jesus set a precedent!
There are some pits, gulfs, chasms that we need to cut off access to!
Some bridges must be burned - stop an advancing enemy
To the past
When you burn bridges to the past, you cancel a known future!
You know what bad decisions cost you, burn those bridges!
What bridges do you need to burn this year?
Protection of self
people influences and thinking
YET, sometime we burn the wrong bridges…
Some pits must be crossed, some bridges must be crossed
To the future

Sometimes there is no bridge to cross
Some bridges must be built

HARD WORK
If you are burning, crossing or building, it will be hard work!
One year from today, what will you be able to say of 2023?
What bridges have you burned, crossed and what bridges do you have under construction?
