I Chronicles 17:1-27, The Davidic Covenant
God sent a message to David through Nathan.
[I Chronicles 17:9: Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning].
Jerusalem is going to be the capital of Israel forever.
Israel in the future will experience peace.
Jesus will return, and they will see the one they pierced.
[I Chronicles 17:16-17: And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?
And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God].
David’s prayer.
He poured out his heart to God. “Who am I”: David’s humility.
David was just a shepherd boy and a king.
David is praising God.
[I Chronicles 17:18: What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant?
for thou knowest thy servant].
“thy servant.”
David was God’s servant.
The Messiah will come from the line of David.
God has a master plan for us.
[I Chronicles 17:20: O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears].
The Lord is the greatest.
[I Chronicles 17:21-22: And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?
For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God].
God has won the battle.
We just need to be faithful.
God is not done with Israel.
The Church is the Bride of Christ.
Praise God that we have a mighty God that is control.
God made Israel His own people.
We are God’s chosen people also.
David was submissive to God’s will even though he was not going to get his desire to build God’s House.
David’s prayer was to glorify God.
[I Chronicles 17:25-27: For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.
And now, LORD, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant: Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O LORD, and it shall be blessed for ever].
David is claiming God’s promises.
God is sovereign.
We need to believe by faith and trust in God’s promises.
We need to appropriate His promises.
[I John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Hebrews 4:16: Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Psalm 32:8: I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye].
David claimed what God said.
We need to have faith.
