Vision Statement (What we want to be by the end of the year. If someone was to describe our church, this is what we want them to say.)
"A place where people find a Godly Purpose, home, family, and acceptance.”
19 You Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens with everyone else who belongs to the family of God. 20 You are like a building with the apostles and prophets as the foundation and with Christ as the most important stone. 21 Christ is the one who holds the building together and makes it grow into a holy temple for the Lord. 22 And you are part of that building Christ has built as a place for God’s own Spirit to live.
Eph 2:19–22 (CEV)
Mission Statement: (How we will accomplish the vision for the year. This is what we do.)
16 Make your light shine, so that others will see the good that you do and will praise your Father in heaven.
S= “Singleness of Mind” It is important for us to work at issues of Unity, not excluding others, but finding value in diversity.
H= “Honor” We commit ourselves to honoring God and people in our actions and words.
I= “Instigate Evangelism” We share the Hope of Christ wherever and whenever we have the opportunity.
N= “Nurture Spiritual Gifts” We believe God has given purpose to everybody. It is our job as fellow believers to help one another better define purpose and gifts for the work of the ministry and the Kingdom of God
E= “Equip, Encourage and Empower”
We want to help others grow in the knowledge of God. We then encourage each other to use that knowledge and gifts for the good of the community of faith and the community in which we live. We believe it takes the whole church family to be fruitful in our community, so it is our responsibility to empower believers to fulfill their purpose.
“Look, Know, and Stay”
The church can help people find a home, family, and feel accepted if we Look to Christ, Know what He says, and Stay grounded in Him.
25 Keep looking straight ahead,
without turning aside.
26 Know where you are headed,
and you will stay
on solid ground.
27 Don’t make a mistake by turning
to the right or the left.
Pr 4:25–27.
I am also reminded about Ahab and Jezebel. To me, Ahab's greatest sin was that he Tolerated Baal. We, as the church, will never win the battle in this world if we tolerate the sinfulness of the world. We need to provide a place of refuge where people find a new home and family because they are accepted by God just as they are. God is accepting, but He’s not tolerant.
To accomplish our vision for the year, we need to look straight ahead, know where we are going, and stay standing on solid ground.
What I want to do is develop an action plan for the year that incorporates this vision and mission in all areas of the church. We will work to define the “Who, What, When, and How” of each church department to help us determine how each department can best support the vision and mission for 2023. I will create a “vision wall” in the conference room to help us stay on track. The wall will include the vision, mission, calendar, measurable goals, and tracking of whether we are meeting the goals.
I also want to create a new church ministry called “CRM” - instead of the business term "customer relationship management"; we will call it church relationship management. The idea behind this ministry is to develop a team committed to building relationships in the church to truly make this place a home and family - not just a place to come once a week to worship. I have lots of ideas for this team that are still being developed.
