intro:
New Years day is for more Christian than people realize.
explain how the Jewish new year worked. Both the religious (passover) and the civil (Day of Atonement) new year.
When you think of John the Baptist what are some of the more memorable things he said?
John 3:30 CSB
He must increase, but I must decrease.”
Perhaps even more famous than that is the statement. “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.”

1. He is the new and Everlasting Lamb. He is the eternal sacrifice.

Hebrews 9:12 CSB
he entered the most holy place once for all time, not by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.
Hebrews 10:4 CSB
For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
Hebrews 10:12 CSB
But this man, after offering one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God.
His sacrifice will never be diluted, destroyed, deleted or disavowed.
Notice He is the Lamb of God not man’s lamb. He is God’s solution for sin not man’s solution. Which is good because man’s solution wont work only God’s solution works.
The sins of the world. Do you live in this world? Than there is forgiveness for you in Christ. If you come to Jesus for forgiveness you will receive it.
also it does not says search for Him it says look at Him.

Transition: Where did they sacrifice the Lambs in the Old Testament?

Not only is Jesus the New Lamb but he is ....

2. He is the new Tabernacle 1:14

He is more than the new tabernacle, He is the new and true temple 2:13-19, 21
This maybe be far more then we ever had considered. John in the first 2 chapters of his Gospel is showing us that

3. Jesus is ushering in a new creation (Wedding in Cana and New Wine).

let me show you somethings else here that might sell you on this idea even more.
Look at the 19. 29, 35, 43, 2:1 they equal 6 days and end at a wedding.
2 Corinthians 5:17 CSB
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!
Revelation 21:5 CSB
Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write, because these words are faithful and true.”
In fact this is not the only wedding that the Lamb of God attends in scripture.
Revelation 19:6–9 CSB
Then I heard something like the voice of a vast multitude, like the sound of cascading waters, and like the rumbling of loud thunder, saying, Hallelujah, because our Lord God, the Almighty, reigns! Let us be glad, rejoice, and give him glory, because the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his bride has prepared herself. She was given fine linen to wear, bright and pure. For the fine linen represents the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, “Write: Blessed are those invited to the marriage feast of the Lamb!” He also said to me, “These words of God are true.”
This new year I hope you experience all the newness that Jesus is and has to bring.
If Jesus is the reason for the season. Than He is the New in New Year.
Jesus do not give 2nd chances as much as he gives new fresh beginnings. He makes new things He creates and makes new.
Jesus does not fix He recreates
He does not make bad men a little better or good. He makes dead men alive. He makes old men band new and give young men eternal life.
Is New Years a Christian holiday? Yes! ...and see the new that Jesus will do.
Jesus makes all things new.
Benediction
Revelation 5:6–13 CSB
Then I saw one like a slaughtered lamb standing in the midst of the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent into all the earth. He went and took the scroll out of the right hand of the one seated on the throne. When he took the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and golden bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song: You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slaughtered, and you purchased people for God by your blood from every tribe and language and people and nation. You made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will reign on the earth. Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels around the throne, and also of the living creatures and of the elders. Their number was countless thousands, plus thousands of thousands. They said with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing! I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them say, Blessing and honor and glory and power be to the one seated on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!
