Peace and Hope in 2023
We Believe
Jesus as a human did no sin
he paid for our sins by dying on the cross
all we need to do is
Romans 10:9–10
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
declare with your mouth
believe in your heart - your whole being
you will be saved
this is the certainty of Jesus
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Peace with God
therefore
we have profess our faith
God then justifies us through that faith
it is not faith generated by us but it comes from God
we accept the truth that Jesus is Lord
Jesus is lord over life and death
justified = reconciled = forgiven = no debt at all
we must be at peace or all turmoil is now removed or neutralized
we have peace with God!
through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.
Standing in Grace
it is through Jesus Christ that we gain everything
it is a gift from God
and our boasting is not from us
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.
we enter this grace of Jesus because of that very grace
we are standing , immersed in that grace
there is one outcome of that grace
True Boasting
it is the hope of the glory of God
“And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.”
boast is a joyous exclamation not a prideful, sinful attitude
our sins are forgiven, their power is destroyed
we should rejoice and boast in the Lord
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.
Suffering to Hope
the use of glory is reinforcement of our rejoicing and boasting
Paul moves from the spiritual context to a more pragmatic experiences
suffering can be inflicted on a believer - we do live in this world
yet our response is the same
The Process to Hope
there is truth in these words … we know
suffering leads to preseverance - it is the Lord carrying us through
our character is built - the character of Jesus as we become more like him in his suffering
And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Antidote to Shame
hope has divine results
shame is of the devil
the two cannot or rather should not co-exist
hope of God must displace all shame
God’s love is stronger than death, sin and in fact all expressions of sin
shame, regret, guilt, embarrassment and more
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,
The Blessings of Hope
the overwhelming influence of the world and the flesh is to destroy hope
even for believers, there is tremendous pressure to despair
it is evident today in the news and ungodly ways becoming even more prevalent
Jesus has called us
do not neglect nor diminish the magnitude of that blessing
Glorious Inheritance
in fact let us see
the riches of his glorious inheritance
this is ours now
