Isaiah 58:1–14 (ESV)
1 “Cry aloud; do not hold back; lift up your voice like a trumpet; declare to my people their transgression, to the house of Jacob their sins. 2 Yet they seek me daily and delight to know my ways, as if they were a nation that did righteousness and did not forsake the judgment of their God; they ask of me righteous judgments; they delight to draw near to God. 3 ‘Why have we fasted, and you see it not? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you take no knowledge of it?’ Behold, in the day of your fast you seek your own pleasure, and oppress all your workers. 4 Behold, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to hit with a wicked fist. Fasting like yours this day will not make your voice to be heard on high. 5 Is such the fast that I choose, a day for a person to humble himself? Is it to bow down his head like a reed, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? Will you call this a fast, and a day acceptable to the Lord? 6 “Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? 8 Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. 9 Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’ If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, 10 if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. 11 And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. 12 And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in. 13 “If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight and the holy day of the Lord honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, or seeking your own pleasure, or talking idly; 14 then you shall take delight in the Lord, and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth; I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
3 principles of Fasting
Lift Your Voice and You Needs
how must time do you sit and think and worry about your needs. Yet prayer is the last thing that we do.
how many of use spend more time talking to God in our heads and not with our voice.
There is power in the tongue.
A prayer cried out add power to the prayer because you hear it as will as God
We pray over our food, we pray for other people but if you are like me we feel selfish to pray for just me. BUT God has called us to give us his needs.
This Year Take 10 Min, 30 min, what ever you can first thing every day and pray out loud to God. If you have to wake up and walk to another room. Do it. IT will set you day off focused on God
This will help change your situation, your outlook, and your joy.
Use these 21 Days to start it, and if you are not blessed more doing it, after 21 days stop. I bet that you wont.
Be a Humble Servant
Part of our fasting is to also serve. Take some time that we are otherwise busy and use it to help someone else.
use the extra to help the needed
Use the extra money to help someone around you ( Notice I didn't say send it to the church Use it how God is leading you)
Use the extra time to talk to more people to look for ways you can help your community
use the extra to God, what ever it is.
What is i don’t know how to give my extra? Come Ask. I would love to have that conversation.
It is not just about serving its about being humble
don’t go around trying to look like your fasting.
Jesus spoke about that.
Even when you are wanting that time back, even if your uncomfortable, hungry, tired, Do it will love and JOY
Serve because it is to God but because your fasting.
Make a Goal.
Serve someone different each of the 21 Days
Go out look
give to the homeless
help someone with their bills
Help someone with lifting things in to their car
Bless with a tip above and beyond
Pray with someone who is in need
There are many more needs then you can find in 21 days, we just don’t see them
we get use to it
we see it everyday
Pour Your self out
We can not go in to life thinking we have everything all ready.
We have to remember that God is trying to teach us something.
Don’t Go into this fast with the mind set that You know what will happen
God wants to surprise you
Walk every day asking God to Empty your expectations
Look for God everywhere.
Give God everything you can for 21 Day.
Every time your stressed, hurt, upset, PRAY
Every time that you have a need stop and Pray
Every time you serve, Tell God Thanks
Every time you get down, sad, or mad, Worship
Put on some Worship Music ( some of yall don’t even listen to Christian Music outside of Sunday) You cant worship to county, you cant worship to Rock.
not saying you cant listen to it but many get sad and mad, and they listen to just any music. CHANGE THAT.
This is the greates time to worship and let God pick you back up.
Do this for 21 days and if you don’t feel different then change back.
If you don’t know of anyone to listen too.
