One of our kids’ favorite activities is helping Rachel garden in our small raised beds in the back yard.
They love to plant seeds, to check how much growth there has been, and especially to water the plants.
They think about gardening wherever they go - the other day we were eating dinner with sesame seed buns and the kids started talking amongst themselves and decided that we need to take the seeds off the buns, plant them in our garden, and grow some bread in the garden.
For them, it just makes sense.
They planted the okra seed themselves.
They watched and watered the plant as it grew.
They ate the fruit and saw the same kind of seeds inside as they did when they planted it - makes sense, right?
I did not have the heart to tell them that those were sesame seeds, not bread seeds, nor did I have the heart to tell them that because they’ve been cooked they won’t even grow.
But, as I was overhearing their conversation I was drawn to consider the fact the life of a plant. What does
