1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
The Nature of Revelation
The Nature of Revelation
These words, and those that follow regarding creation, could not have been known by anyone. There were no human witnesses to this moment. God alone was there and God alone could supernaturally reveal to mankind what transpired.
The Limitation of True Understanding
The Limitation of True Understanding
Our entire experience is bound in time. We cannot comprehend non-time. But time itself had a beginning. We naturally want to know what was before time, but even the question is bound by time. In these first four words, more is revealed to us than we are capable of understanding.
The Existence of God
The Existence of God
God introduces Himself as fully existent and fully outside of the time, space, and matter that He was creating. Again, this exceeds our ability to understand. There are two important thoughts, here:
God’s existence is assumed, not proved
God’s existence is that of One fully-realized not one becoming. The tales of the ancient gods begin with the births and backstories of the gods and how they came to be. Genesis is a stark contrast to those accounts.
God’s existence is that of One who is complete not one of completing.
The Hebrew word translated God is Elohim: it is a plural word used in a singular fashion.
It speaks of the godhead as a unit.
As a unit of being comprised of three persons, He had no need that He was seeking to fulfill.
Nothing about creation expanded or completed God. Indeed, obliging Himself to work within the confines of creation as He does, is more limiting than freeing, more reducing than expanding.
The Foundation of Faith
The Foundation of Faith
If you can believe these words, you can believe all those that follow.
The Pattern for Life
The Pattern for Life
It is appropriate that we follow the pattern God executed: that He belongs at the beginning. At the beginning of what? Everything.
In the beginning of the year, God
In the beginning of the day, God
In the beginning of _________, God
