Matthew 26:26-28
Matthew 26:26-28 “Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.”
And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
According to Matthew, Jesus used this as an opportunity for one last teaching before His arrest.
Notice that they were eating.
They were gathered around a table sharing a meal.
The disiciples could not understand the meaning of what Jesus was teaching them but they soon would.
I don’t know about you and your family, but there has been alot of problems talked about and worked out at our table.
But, who do you invite to your table?
Family and friends, right?
Let’s pay attention to the fact that Jesus took time to sit at a table with the people who He was closest to in this world and spend time with them.
Jesus had full knowledge of what was about to happen, that He would be arrested soon and then be crucified.
And He made time.
We may not always agree or see eye to eye, those men didn’t, but like family we will love each other and stand beside one another.
1 Corinthians 11:23-25 “For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you.
Do this in remembrance of me.”
In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood.
Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.””
