YOU'LL NEED THIS Part 2. (ANOINTING SUNDAY)

1 John 2:18–27 (ESV)

18 Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us. 20 But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. 21 I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth. 22 Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also. 24 Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that he made to us—eternal life.

26 I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. 27 But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.

YOU’LL NEED THIS in 2023! - PART 2.

What will you need?

You’ll NEED JESUS. (last week if you missed that message you need to catch up!)

but you’ll also need the anointing of the Holy Spirit in 2023. so welcome to Anointing SUNDAY.

You’ll Need JESUS - But you’ll also need the SPIRIT ALSO:In fact you cant do without it?

Definition: ”A ritual of pouring or smearing oil on a person's head or forehead. The ritual was often done to install someone in a new office or role of authority.”

WHEN IT CAME TO KINGS BEING PLACED IN AUTHORITY, WARRIORS GOING TO BATTLE / it was used as a measure of SIGNIFICANCE and CONSECRATION.

ALSO FOR HEALING James 5:14-15 “14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.”

What is the anointing & why is it important?

All throughout scripture we see a pattern: “God apoints, God Anoints”

I WANT TO TALK TODAY TO YOU ABOUT A SUPERNATURAL MOVE OF GOD CALLED APPOINTMENT & ANOINTMENT:

write this down: WHAT YOU ARE APPOINTED TO, YOU WILL BE ANOINTED FOR

God has a WAY of doing things:

God always raises up

God always promotes

God always appoints

… But there is a 4th thing that we must NOT FORGET

.............and that is - God always anoints HIS CHOSEN INSTRUEMENTS to do HIS WORK.

ITS SO FUNNY HOW WE STRUGLE TO WRAP OUR MINDS AROUND THIS COMPONENT..... I MEAN THINK ABOUT UIT!!!BUT HOLD ON:

we tend to understand the raising up part(Training and Development)

we tend to understand the promotion part (A role of authority)

We tend to get it that there is an appointment (time & place).. and even an assignment (a mission)

But what is it about the anointing?

WHY DONT WE GET THAT PART?

....

its because....Its the SPIRIT! John 3:8 “8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.””

And what we see time and time again in the OT and ALSO THE NT - You can achieve very little IF ANYTHING without the supernatural power of God working in you, Which is HIS SPIRIT.

zech 4:6 “6 Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.”

....

SO WHY DON’T WE TALK ABOUT THE SPIRIT and the ANOINTING of the HOLY SPIRIT: this is why: WE CANT UNDERSTAND IT.

and thats the point, because if we could understand it, we would replicate it, we would produce it ON OUR OWN… and GOD WOULD NO LONGER BE NEEDED.

YOU NEED THE SPIRITS ANOINTING ON YOUR SEASON.

YOU NEED THS ANOINTING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT upon your FAMILY

You need the ANOINTING on your kids

You need the anointing upon your endeavors

Why?

because you have been CALLED, APPOINTED.... and You need the anointing: Here is another progression we see in SCRIPTURE:

2 Kings 11:12 “12 Then he brought out the king’s son and put the crown on him and gave him the testimony. And they proclaimed him king and anointed him, and they clapped their hands and said, “Long live the king!””

CALLED.... APPOINTED..... ANOINTED.

WHATS GOD GOT AHEAD FOR YOU In 2023 i wonder?

Galatians 5:25 “25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.”

What are of life, what sphere of influence has GOD given you to ATTEND TO? to STEP INTO

Whats your appointment?>

Whats the TIME AND PLACE that God has set up for you to walk into… because thats what he will anoint

YOU NEED HIS ANOINTING TO DO WHAT YOURE CALLED TO DO!

maybe you are a teacher: you need to let the the HOLY SPIRIT anoint you

Maybe you are a stay at home parent you need to let the the HOLY SPIRIT anoint you

Maybe a business person you need to let the the HOLY SPIRIT anoint you

maybe a ministry leader you need to let the the HOLY SPIRIT anoint you

Maybe God is calling you to a specific type of mission or endeavor. you need to let the the HOLY SPIRIT anoint you

ITS ALWAYS THE SAME PROCESS:

HE RAISES UP

HE APPOINTS

HE ANOINTS

5 key reasons WHY YOU NEED THE ANOINTING in 2023:

1.It empowers you

Power from On HIGH.

WHEN THE APOSTLES were gathered in acts. there was the outpouring of the Holy spirit upon them, and it was a rush of power upon them and it was FROM that point that they went from having NO power, to HAVING power.

Acts 2 / The Spirit comes / Acts 3 We see Peter & John heal the lame beggar.

remember they had trouble taking AUTHORITY over demons and raising the dead. why?

because they LACKED POWER.

BUT NOW THEY HAD IT.

Why do you need power?

because without it, what your called to do would be impossible.

EXMAPLE: If i am sitting down at the living room couch and i need to get to dining room table to EAT - once i decide thats what im going to do, its the POWER & the STRENGTH that my BODY responds with that gets me UP ands MOVES me over to the COUCH.

YOU NEED POWER.

The best example i can think of in my own life has been planting this church: i do not have the “natural ability” to do this. But i have the supernatural power.

The anointing supercedes natural talent ability & gifting

GIFTING IS NATURAL: Thats what your born with..... and if your born with some great abilities - use them for Gods Glory!

ANOINTING IS SPIRITUAL: Because it COMES from GOD. Not from MAN

PROPHESY OVER THE PEOPLE:

Im believing this year that the HOLY SPIRIT is going to empower your ability

To HEAR GOD, To Live for God , to overcome SIN and the ENEMY,

Its going to be HIS power working within you!

NEW WINE, NEW ABILITY, NEW SPIRITUAL POTENCY, NEW GIFTING AND ABILITY IN JESUS NAME!

2.It emboldens you

How do you have Confidence like Paul / To travel, to visit new places and stand in public squares and enter communities and talk about a MAN.. and a WAY.. and about the fulfilment of SCRIPTURE to JEWS?

By the anointing of the Holy SPIRIT - thats how

How do you run across the valley of ELAH Boldness like David did and meet the giant who in EVERY way had david beaten and done for?

It was the anointing - that brought confidence:

1 sam 17:45-46 “45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,”

The anointing of the Holy Spirit in your life gives you the confidence that you need to achieve the completion of the assignment.

some of you don’t have the confidence, you are doubting - why? because you need the anointing.

There is an old saying that “indecision robs a man” / The enemy LOVES indecision, He loves to BREED doubt, He loves to get you rattled

THE ANOINTING OF GOD GIVES YOU THE BACKBONE OF STEEL TO STEP INTO THE LIFE GOD HAS CALLED YOU TO LIVE?

The anointing doesnt HESISTATE.

3.It equips you - it gives you the tools, You are given a greater ability to do what your called to do with the anointing:

This is what the Holy Spirit brings in: IS 11:2 “2 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.”

Some of things that you’ll get in the equipping:

You’ll get Wisdom: “the Spirit of wisdom and understanding”

You’ll get Insight: To be able to see in, insight is simpoly being able to SEE-IN to a situation. Who wants more INSIGHT into your season and your time?

You’ll get Knowledge: of the word but also KNOWLEDGE that you didn’t previously have!

You’ll get Truth: The holy spiit wont lead you down an incorrect path: he is the correct one, he knows all, loves all, knows all… he will not lead you astray!

Grace: You’ll be able to operate in a GRACE you have never experienced before

Hope: You’ll be able to have hope but extend HOPE because of your Attachment to HOPE

Mercy & Love

teaching: 1 John 2:27 “27 But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.”

4.It grows you - it matures you.

5.It brings Christ out in YOU.
