Sermon Tone Analysis

Study are in the fall, we were doing foundations.

We were doing an overview of the Old Testament.

Seeing the foundations of our faith understanding who are God, is and all that he has done for us today.

We're going to be starting into the book of Acts and we're going to be looking at an overview of the church.

What is the church?

What's it supposed to be doing?

How are we supposed to do those things?

And so for that, we're going to be looking at the acts of the Apostle.

It just a little bit of a background for this book.

This was actually written by Luke.

It was written by Luke hero to Hero to his gospel account.

The account of Christ's life.

And he wrote The Acts of the Apostles two books but he wrote them about the same time.

And again he writes them.

He says to Theophilus to someone who who loves God who wants to know the facts of of everything that they had heard?

So, Acts of the Apostles were acts as we commonly call, it was probably written about 60 a d.

So, about 30 years after Christ death, burial and resurrection.

And why is that important?

Well, Again, Luke was able to go back and talk to the eyewitnesses who saw everything that he did not personally experience.

And of course with the book of Acts, he was a highly involved.

And so he saw one of those things firsthand, but for the other things, he went back was able to talk to people to know exactly what happened, and we see that in Luke chapter 1 verses 1 to 4. And let me just read that for you very quickly, hear Luke chapter 1, verses 1 to 4, where he says many have undertaken to draw up.

An account of the things that have been fulfilled Among Us, just as they were handed down to us by those, from the first who were eyewitnesses and Servants of the word with this.

In mind, since I myself have carefully, investigated everything from the beginning.

I decided to write an orderly account for your most excellent Theophilus so that you may know the certainty of the things you've been taught.

And so he was writing this for believers to really know SS questions, and you may even find that today.

You know, you you know what you've been taught.

You know, the things that have been told you but somebody may come a question, but how do you really know And so, Luke trying to shore up the faith of these new Believers and some of these regions that are well, beyond all the events that took place in the Gospel of Luke.

And then, in the X Apostles, he was writing to let them know.

Know, this really did happen.

I went, I talked and I recorded all this recorded all this.

So about 60 Ada.

Now, again, because he was writing around 60 AD, It Was Written in a time.

We're both those who were for Christ and for the church could be able able to give by witness account but also those who opposed to church, Ross was able to give an account.

And so this really speaks to the truthfulness of the Gospel of Luke.

And also the book of Acts again, where we find acts leaving off is Paul is left in prison, in Rome after he had appealed to Caesar.

And so there there's possible motive here by Luke, to write these accounts as somewhat of a defense for all is, well, to show the authorities in Rome, all that had taken place.

And again, they could go back to all these cities were things have taken place with Paul and get verification of.

Oh, yes, it's really did happen.

And so it speaks to the truthfulness of this account, in the Apostle, of the Gospel of Luke, in any Acts of the Apostles, This book is a very important book in one that we want to make sure that we take time to to understand and know it's important for us to the church to know the background of what is the church.

What is the church supposed to be doing?

How are we supposed to do it?

It's an exciting booking that we see God for filling his promises again as we go through the scriptures.

I always say, okay, let's ask first, what do we learn about God?

What do we learn about ourselves?

And for us, as Believers is, particularly helps us to understand who God is in relation to the church, to ask, who are believers and understand who were supposed to be.

It's where we see God fulfilling his promises, we see Christ building his church, even in the face of opposition and we see the Holy Spirit enabling Believers to do the very things that he's called us to do.

We see the beginnings of church.

We see the purpose of the church.

We see how they deal with some theological issues that come up.

We see how they are structured and how they go about getting l.

This book really should be a challenge.

It should be exciting for us because we are the church.

We are the church.

It's always we see the things are taking place here and actually should be challenged and excited to say.

Okay why is it that they were able to do the things that they did?

What was it?

She challenged us to say or do we have that kind of focus?

What are we doing?

Should excited to see that God works through his church and yes we are the church.

So God wants to work through.

US backs is a great book and I hope that as we study through the coming months and it will be an excitement and a challenge to us excitement and a challenge will today, I'm tiling the message the mission and the method.

We're going to go through Acts chapter 1 and again, we're just going to get an overview.

That's what the studies going to be.

We're not going to go and dig in really deep, we're going to kind of get the big picture from the book of Acts, even just doing that.

It's going to take us months.

But today we're going to look at chapter 1 in in chapter one.

I see where we find the mission of the church.

Well, the first part of the first part of the method next week, Pastor Keith is going to be freezing while we're away with the use and he's going to talk about the meats.

Are we supposed to accomplish this Mission and the second part of the method as well?

But 4-day let's go ahead and dig into action after 1. Start looking at the mission and the method of the church.

So I'm picking up here and asked 1:1 says in my former book Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and teach until the day he was taken up to heaven.

After giving instructions to the Holy Spirit to the apostles, he had chosen After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive.

He appeared to them over a period of forty days.

And spoke about the kingdom of God, on one occasion while he was eating with them.

He gave them this command, do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift.

My father promised, which you have heard me speak about, for John, baptized with water, but in a few days, you'll be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

Right off the bat, we see Jesus saying wait for the gift, my father promised and we're going to see.

We're going to see here in the book of Acts that God does fulfil his promises.

He does.

And of course, many of you have already read that Axion, spoiler alert for key.

Sorry, the Holy Spirit has come He does.

But that's a fulfillment of God's promises.

It shows that God is faithful to everything.

He promised even hundreds of years before.

Are we see this in Isaiah 44 3 where God says I will pour water on the Thirsty land and streams on the dry ground.

I will pour out my spirit on your Offspring, my blessing on your descendants.

The Holy Spirit.

It was Moses again through the Old Testament, only certain individuals that God choose to work with the Holy Spirit would come on them to give them the power to do the mission that God has given them.

Moses was one of those mad.

I gave him very specific Mission, bring my people out of Egypt, lead them to the promised land.

And God put his Spirit on Moses to give him the power to do, the things that God wanted to do to accomplish his mission.

One more Point Moses was overwhelmed with the people who were whining and complaining time and time and time again that he's like, God, I didn't give birth to these people.

Why do I have to carry them?

Like infants?

It's too much for me.

If this is the way it's going to be just like me out now. you can look it up yourself, in Numbers, Chapter 11,

And God said, tell you what, get seventy elders.

70 men, that respected and I will put the spirit that I put on you.

I will put on them so they can help carry the load of the people.

Will they gather together the elders?
