Ok, we have a whole new year ahead of us! What plans have we already made for this year, a new year that is full of potential? Some of the plans we possibly already have may even be summed up by a New Years resolution or two. In both Psalm 90 and our text today, God taps us on the shoulder and puts us in our place, for like the teenagers we were, and as they are today, we can live as though we are indestructible and what we plan is sure to pass if only we set out achievable goals. You know those short term and intermediate goals which when achieved lead to the realisation of our ultimate goal. There is even a ‘recipe’ for such assured goal setting that goes by the acronym SMART… our goals need to be Specific… Measurable… Achievable… Realistic and Timebound. Today God in His Word says ‘Hang on a minute, as SMART as your goals may be, this is how you need to approach the future and your plans.
