Reading: Hebrews 2:1-4
Hebrews 2:1–4 ESV
1 Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. 2 For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, 3 how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, 4 while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

In light of the witnesses to Christ - the testimonies of angels and righteous judgment, and especially the testimonies of God - the author of Hebrews recognizes that we are now put on the spot. He asks at the beginning of verse 3:
Hebrews 2:3 ESV
3 how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard,
What hope is there for us if, even knowing all that we know about Christ, after hearing God’s message spoken and seeing it actively demonstrated in miracles and through the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers, if after all that we still reject Christ - we still refuse to believe, then what? We are doomed! So the writer of Hebrews comes to a conclusion that he uses to begin this passage:
Hebrews 2:1 ESV
1 Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.

We Must Take Heed to the Testimony of Christ
