Are you or someone you know in a rut?
Luke 18:35–43 NIV
35 As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. 37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” 38 He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 39 Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 40 Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, 41 “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied. 42 Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” 43 Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
Luke 18:35 NIV
35 As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.
Does not specify if he was blind from birth, or lost it over time, or from an accident.
But back then if you were blind you were looked down upon and the only thing you could do for income was to have someone take you to a place where people travel by and beg for money.
To move from Rut to Repurpose you have to keep doing something.
Notice he was not sitting at home.
Ill: Dave and areospace industry strike. - Worked at Target.
Luke 18:36 NIV
36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening.
Question? If the blind guy chose to stay at home and not take some form of action as little as it was or as demeaning as it was, would he have been on the side of the road to hear the crowd passing by? No?
If you are not where you want to be right now you might be right where you need to be for your next opportunity.
To move from Rut to Repurpose we need to recognize that we might be exactly where we need to be.
God you have me here right now. What is it that you need me to see in my circumstances that I am not seeing?
Luke 18:37 NIV
37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”
Moving from Rut to Repurpose we need to be looking for our opportunity.
Luke 18:38 NIV
38 He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Moving from Rut to Repurpose we have to be willing to ask for help.
You can always ask for help. Ask God first and then others second.
Besides God who do I ask? Those that have done what you want to do. Do you know of someone that has been in a similar rut as you and they found a way out of it?
Your marriage is in a rut. Talk to a couple whos marriage you admire.
Your finances are out of wack? Talk to ppl you know that have there finances in order.
But you have to suck up your pride and ask.
Ill: Guy at the gym asked another guy how did you get such big arms? How much weight and how many reps and how often. Answer: I start curling the weights tell it starts burning then I do and count out 10 more. See most ppl quite as soon as it start to hurt.
Luke 18:39 NIV
39 Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
They told him to be quite. But he shouted all the more.
There will be people that will want to hold you back if you want to move from Rut to Repurpose.
Luke 18:40–41 NIV
40 Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, 41 “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied.
What do you want me to do for you?
I want to see.
It is okay to ask. Some of you feel that you don’t deserve it. And you are right.
Matthew 7:7–11 NIV
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
Vs. 8: For everyone who asks receives. - But not me.
Vs. 11: Your Father in heaven give good gift to those who ask him!
TP:
What do you need Jesus to do for you.
Luke 18:42 NIV
42 Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.”
Keep asking and believing.
What is faith?
Hebrews 11:1 NIV
1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Luke 18:43 NIV
43 Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
Immediately he received his sight. - What most have that been like.
Color blind and gets the gift of glasses that help him see color for the first time. https://youtu.be/nG3-SypqqI0
When he said "those aren't the same" I just teared up cuz I actually realised what he meant and how he has seen the world for his whole life.
How have you been seeing the world your whole life?
Is it not time for you to turn the page. The next chapter in your book.
To move from Rut to Repurpose.
You get what you focus on. So what are you always talking about and focused on? The rut you are in or the repurposed life you want?
Out mtn biking and going down a fire road with ruts in it. Rut on the left side of the trail and smooth trail on the right. Repeating to myself. Don’t go in the rut, don’t go in the rut! Where did I end up? In the rut.
One thing I can’t stand hearing other people say is “nothing ever works out for me”. Nothing? You know why nothing ever works out for you? Because that is what you focus on.
John 10:10 ESV
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
