I. Israel Became Divide as a Nation, and They Ended Up in Captivity as a Result of Sinning
I. Israel Became Divide as a Nation, and They Ended Up in Captivity as a Result of Sinning
A. Because of Sinning, Judah Ended Up in Captivity to Babylon
Je 29:20-22 “20 Hear ye therefore the word of the Lord, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon: 21 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes; 22 And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The Lord make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;”
B. Because of Sinning, Israel Ended Up in Captivity to Assyria
Eze 39:20-23 “20 Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord God. 21 And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them. 22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the Lord their God from that day and forward. 23 And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.”
II. The New Testament Church Became Divided by Following After Different People Instead of Christ
A. In the New Testament, Some Followed Paul, Some Followed Apollos, and Some Followed Cephas
I Co 1:10-15 “10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
B. Christ is Not Divided.
C. We Are to Follow Christ Who Died for Us
13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; 15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.”
D. We Are to Be Baptized in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
Mt 28:19 “19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”
E. Paul and Apollos Were But Ministers by Whom We Believe in Jesus
I Co 3:1-5 “1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? 5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?”
F. The Same is True Today. The Ministers Are Point to Jesus and His Teachings
G. We Are to Follow Jesus and Not Make Some Person Our God
III. Our Families Are Not to Be Divided
A. A House, Family Divided Against It Self Will Not Stand
Mt 12:25 “25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:”
B. A Family with the Father Against the Son; Mother Against the Daughter; the Mother Against the Mother in Law; and the Daughter Against the Mother in Law Will Not Stand
Lu 12:50-53 “50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished! 51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: 52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. 53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.”
C. The Husband Is to Be the Head of the Family Under Christ
Eph 5:23 “23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.”
IV. You Can’t God and Satan
Mt 6:24 “24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
