Specifically the resurrection of Jesus:

Gospel accounts:
Theological ideas:
Deity / Humanity — death proves Jesus is both God and man=
Messianic role — both Messiah and Lord Acts 2:36
His eternity (he is eternal - does not have a beginning or end) — limitless in regards to time.
Authority / power / presence (he is alive and with us by his spirit (e.g. Paul speaks of the spirit of Christ)
Normally the first expression is as a miracle
Judgement and eschatology (end times)
Gen 3:15
What are the issues?
People have denied / doubted / thought it was just spiritual and not physical. Some said it had already happened. Lord Hearing — said it was just a metaphor.
Big idea (ideas / examples):
The code of Gods rescue plan, because in it, God confirms all his promises about the messiah.
The hope of all Christians.
Proof of Gods divinity and humanity
God confirms his love in the resurrection because it shows victory over sin
God’s deliberate plan to deal with Sin once for all, to bring those who believe into right relationship.
Implications:
Why study this, if you don’t know know, then don’t do it.
The reason for our hope / faith
An essential belief:
1 Corinthians 15:14 “And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.”
1) How does Jesus or any of the apostles apply this concept into the New testament?
Romans 10:8–10 NIV
But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
1 Peter 3:18 NIV
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.
2) now that we are united with Christ, what are the implications for us?
Behavior — how we live + reason for our hope
Colossians 3:1 NIV
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Colossians 3:5 NIV
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
3) How should my topic inform my beliefs? Do i need to change what I believe about God? Are there truths that I am encouraged to keep holding onto?
Luke 24:5 NIV
In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?
Acts 1:3 NIV
After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.
Acts 1:8 NIV
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
—> A sign of the holy spirit given for witnessing.
4) How should this topic affect my behavior? Is there anything i need to repent of? How should it change my thoughts, words and actions?
— if the resurrection if proof that Jesus will judge, then we need to repent now and turn to him.
—it is a huge driver of hope
— burial is a symbolic of the resurrection
5) What are the implications of this topic for those whom I will be teaching? What is my audience like? How should this topic inform their beliefs? How should this topic inform their behavior.
Speculative theology
—> how many angels fit on a pin
—> What was God doing before he created the world.... making hells for people who ask stupid questions...
Done well it should humble you. If it makes you arrogant or proud then you are doing something wrong.
Jesus’s death on the cross was part of God’s plan of restoration since the beginning of time
Acts 2:23 (NIV)
23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.
As Jesus was sinless death had no hold on him
1 Peter 2:22 NIV
22 “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.”
Acts 2:24 NIV
24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
As the consequence of sin is death (Romans 6:23
Romans 6:23 NIV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
And as
Hebrews 9:27 NIV
27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,
Yet instead of being judged, Christ died victoriously, conquering sin;
1 Corinthians 15:54 “54 ....“Death has been swallowed up in victory.””
1 Corinthians 15:54 NIV
54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
Christ now sits as the judge Romans 2:16
Romans 2:16 (NIV)
16 This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.
It also proves Jesus is God....
Therefore we have to respond John 3:17-18
John 3:17–18 NIV
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
1 John 1:8–10 NIV
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.
Acts 2:22–39 (NIV)
22 “Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. 25 David said about him:
“ ‘I saw the Lord always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.
26 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest in hope,
27 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
you will not let your holy one see decay.
28 You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence.’
29 “Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,
“ ‘The Lord said to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand
35 until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet.” ’
36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is that central moment in human history that serves as the foundational doctrine of Christianity. After having truly assumed human nature and submitted to an agonizing and shameful public death, the eternal Son of God was truly raised from the dead in his glorified physical body, no longer subject to decay and death. His resurrection validates his identity as the divine Son of God, demonstrates his irrevocable victory over death and the grave, and secures both the present salvation and future physical resurrection of believers.

7. Did Jesus even appear again to men? Yes to Paul at his conversion (Acts 9:1–7; 1 Cor. 15:8); and to John the apostle (Rev. 1:13–20).

8. What is proved by these appearances? That we worship a living, omnipresent Saviour, who is able and willing to conquer death.

Bible passages involving the resurrection:

Elijah - raising the son of the widow 1 Kings 17:10-28
1 Kings 17:15–22 (NIV)
She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.
Some time later the son of the woman who owned the house became ill. He grew worse and worse, and finally stopped breathing. She said to Elijah, “What do you have against me, man of God? Did you come to remind me of my sin and kill my son?”
“Give me your son,” Elijah replied. He took him from her arms, carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his bed. Then he cried out to the Lord, “Lord my God, have you brought tragedy even on this widow I am staying with, by causing her son to die?” Then he stretched himself out on the boy three times and cried out to the Lord, “Lord my God, let this boy’s life return to him!”
The Lord heard Elijah’s cry, and the boy’s life returned to him, and he lived.
Prophecy from Ezekiel that the bones of the people of Israel will receive the spirit and come to life.
Ezekiel 37:12–14 NIV
Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’ ”
General principal of resurrection

12:2 This is the first reference in the Bible to the physical resurrection of the righteous and the wicked (see Isa 26:19 for a reference to the resurrection of the righteous). The NT’s description of heaven and hell expands and deepens this teaching on the afterlife (see John 5:24–29).

Daniel 12:2 NIV
Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.
Psalm 16:10 NIV
because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay.
Genesis 3:15 NIV
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”
John 5:24–29 NIV
“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man. “Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.
Simple Defn:
The final resurrection of all people before their judgment before God.
RESURRECTION From the Latin resurrectio, meaning “rising again.” A return to life after having died. Mainly refers to the resurrection of Christ—the central event of the Christian faith. Also refers to the Christian doctrine of corporate resurrection, which is connected to the judgment of both the living and the dead.
Paul argues that if Jesus did not bodily rise from the dead as the firstfruit of believers, biblical faith is fallacious and ineffective, preaching is useless, apostolic witnesses were false, sin remains unforgiven, and believers have died without hope (1 Cor 15:12–19). He also asserts that Christians are misguided without this distinctive doctrine (1 Cor 15:32).
