Intro

one of the most detailed stories of the life of a prophet
the weeping prophet
the one least listened to
no one does as God asks through Jeremiah
they choose the wrath for themselves, following the lie which sounds more pleasant

Calling

a common call narrative
called when he was very young and spoke for God to the very end
a young boy of the tribe of Benjamin set over the world by the word and power of God

Catastrophe

26 relenting from disaster and threats of death
27 Jeremiah wears the yoke
28 Hananiah the false prophet
37 warning to Zedekiah
38 Jeremiah in the cistern

Carried Away

39 Jerusalem falls
there are even episodes after this with the people still refusing to listen to Jeremiah
they have seen everything Jeremiah said would come true up to that point happen and yet they refuse to hear him
he told two kings their fate and watched it play out and they still, knowingly refuse to listen to God

Application

following God is not easy
he often tells us what we don’t want to hear
the reason why so many people won’t follow him
they know what they ought to do and accept that but still would rather do what they think is best
God loves all of us and created us for good
we just don’t get to decide what the good is
