Intro and tension
Week 2 - Series called “Lean in” - Last week - Used Analagy of Sky Diver - Great Idea - What do you have to do - Lean - Lean and God will do the rest.
Going through book of Moses - Everyone remembers the highlight reels - Parted Red sea - Leads to unhelpful Comments, just part the red sea - What often get’s overlooked, Trials of Moses | Great encouragement - Last week;
Lean in to your new name | Different | help that is above | God
Might of walked out pumped up - Excited for New Year - Excited to be used - But what I also know, some of you are discouraged- Physically worn out | Emotionally drained | Spiritually dry | and what I know; If Enemy can’t Destroy you - He will Discourage you.
Where we ended last week - Moses, was extremely Discouraged - He came back to Egypt | Pharoah slapped him down | Made his people work even harder | Maybe you’re here - Maybe you’re not - Maybe you haven’t had opportunity to be discouraged, because you’re not in the game.
I love what it says in james;
As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.
title: How to Lean in, and get through it
Phrase of the day: Patient Endurance
My Hope; You will find purpose in your pain, joy in your struggles and today will provide a source of encouragemnet.
**Pray**
Where are we? Moses | Grew up Egyption - went to desert 40 years - burning bush - denied the calling - came back to egypt - avengers scene - pharoah said pfft, make hebrews work harder, Moses at the end of his Rope;
Then Moses turned to the Lord and said, “O Lord, why have you done evil to this people? Why did you ever send me? For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has done evil to this people, and you have not delivered your people at all.”
**What do we know? - Before this Moses had to face many trials and tribulations - as a result he was discouraged- hurt etc.- The NT Tells us in James
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
Before we get to good bit, Eeach of you are called by God | 2 Qualities of Calling I want you to understand so we can Patiently Endure.
1. Calling Costs
Character in New Testament | Saul - Destroying Christians, killing them, high up in pharisees | Found himself on way to Damascus | Blinding light - Saw Jesus - was blinded - God sent a messenger - Ananias - The message was not;
Saul - Your eyes are gonna be healed - Crazy Testimony, book deal, Gonna be amazing, give you heaps of money - no he says
But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.”
Saul - CHOSEN INSTRUMENT - CARRY MY NAME - MAKE A DIFFERENCE - I WIL LSHOW YOU how much it will cost.
Patiently enduring your calling costs.
Some of you - need to recognise - You’re God’s chosen instrument, where you are. Your Childs life - Your Workplace - Your business - Your college - in your friends group. You are the light.
When you step into calling, you step out of comfort.
I have said - Don’t know why I am here - Burning Desire - but I can’t tell you or explain why I want to take it on - I can only explain, I feel called.Ministry is both exhilerating and exhausting.
Last year, we said, you’re being prepared in Private - Lean into it - Serving Jesus is both a Gift + Cost - Thrill + Burden - Ministry is exhilerating and exhausting - Jesus’ work is your greatest gift and greatest burden.
Disciples said, COUNT IT ALL JOY WHEN YOU SUFFER - Don’t try and avoid the suffering - Look to find this Joy!
Moses, in our story, is finding out - that Patiently enduring is costing him but what he doesn’t know is God is PREPARING HIM - for 40 years in the wilderness.
Some of us need to know;
You might be being prepared in Private, for a season in public.
First quality - Patiently enduring your calling costs.
Transition
How did Moses endure?
Moses didn’t finish the race because he was competent - He finished the race because he was called.
2nd quality, and we are about to see it in Moses - Your calling sustains.
why? God Sustains what God Ordains
Moses discouraged | Just been smashed - Just cried out to God.
NOW, let’s go to chapter 6
God’s about to say something - Revelation for Moses - If you are at the end, I hope - Revelation for you;
But the Lord said to Moses, “Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh; for with a strong hand he will send them out, and with a strong hand he will drive them out of his land.” God spoke to Moses and said to him, “I am the Lord.
God says “I have a way, I have a plan” Moses was so discouraged by God’s lack of Action and God says “I got this” - Some of you need to hear - God has a plan.
I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty, but by my name the Lord I did not make myself known to them. I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they lived as sojourners. Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the people of Israel whom the Egyptians hold as slaves, and I have remembered my covenant.
God Almighty - El Shaddai - “I was not known by that name” - What does this mean? God’s name throughout scripture reveals God’s Character - When he says “I did not make my self known” - It means “They have not seen this played out” but you, Moses, are about to. Your forefathers heard about it, but you’re gonna experience it.
It’s one thing to read about it - To hear about what God can do, but when you experiecne it.
Talking about taking Alexis on Plane - Taking her on plane.
Moses didn’t have correct Perspective - Put Pharoah on pedastool, should of put God on pedastool..
It’s about Perspective
Stone Illustration
Give Perspective to your problems
For you and me - under new covenant he wants to be so much more than “LORD ALMIGHTY”
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
The implications to knowing him as Father will blow your mind - You are the SON, the DAUGHTER who gets the INHERATANCE.
Then check out what God says,to people of Isreal - God is going ALL IN - Will blow your mind and we need to hear it;
Say therefore to the people of Israel, ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from slavery to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of judgment. I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God, and you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who has brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. I will bring you into the land that I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. I will give it to you for a possession. I am the Lord.’ ”
Bring up “I WILL” Statements on the screen.
You know what’s interesting - Hebrew tense here is “Past tense” - God viewed them as “Already done”. When you realise who God is - You will be able to walk into the fire. You are required to walk into the fire. Take focus off the Fire, and On to God.
God is saying I know it looks big - I know Pharoah looks big - I know that addiction looks big, I know that getting spiritually active looks big - Having standards for a gf looks big - I am bigger - I am the Lord - and more than that, I am abba father. I am Jesus Christ - I am the prince of Peace - Your fears - I’ve already defeated | Death, I’ve already defeated - It is done - Submit to my Will.
Perfect Peace is found in the Will of God.
Transition
What do children of Isreal do? They are pumped, excited let’s read;
Moses spoke thus to the people of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses, because of their broken spirit and harsh slavery.
They did not listen, Broken Spirit - Anguish, veil over them, Paul talks about the same veil - Covering us from hearing TRUTH, covering us from hearing what God has for us - Look what Moses says, and I think this is us;
So the Lord said to Moses, “Go in, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the people of Israel go out of his land.” But Moses said to the Lord, “Behold, the people of Israel have not listened to me. How then shall Pharaoh listen to me, for I am of uncircumcised lips?”
I’m just a Sinner, really, me? You chose me? Maybe this is how you feel right now. Still, broken spirit, like the isrealites, God has a message for you.

God never said it would be easy - but He said it would be worth it.
Calling Costs -but Calling Sustains - Lean in to Patient Endurance.
What did God say to Moses;
I see you’re a mess, I see you’re a sinner, I see that you have shame and guilt.
But the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron and gave them a charge about the people of Israel and about Pharaoh king of Egypt: to bring the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt.
Gave them a CHARGE - Today, I hope you hear that the LORD GIVES YOU A CHARGE.
Isrealites, broken spirit, veil over them, couldn’t hear it - Today that Veil is removed and you choose to get back in the game.
Moses didn’t finish the race because he was competent - He did because he was called.
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Lean in to patient endurance. Patient Endurance of your calling.
Calling Costs - but Calling will Sustain.
**Please Stand**
We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.
We have so much more assurance than Moses - Jesus came, while we where sinners.
Jesus, came, to give us life that is truly life. Patiently Endured the cross | Beatings | Whippings to give you a freedom, for all those that turn to Him.
May Jesus grant you the strenght, to patiently endure. The Strength to lean in to Him, The strength to surrender, the strength to submit.
