The Holy Spirit of Promise Series

300 Quotations for Preachers from the Modern Church (Elevated by the Holy Spirit)
The Spirit of God carries us not beside ourselves, but above ourselves, upholding our human weakness along heights where we never could walk alone, leading us aright in the obscurity of our longing, and filling us with his own mighty desires for the rescue of souls and the redemption of the great sin-laden earth.
The Holy Spirit is not someone that is teaching us how to become our best selves. He’s not coaching us how to become a better version of ourselves.
But He teaching us to live above ourselves.
The Holy Spirit is in the realm of the impossible.
We think in the terms of “I think I could do that I just need a little discipline and a push.”
Just think about the unknown, the impossible thats where The Holy Spirit is taking us.
In July 2003 troops from Denmark joined the security forces in Iraq. Although the Danes struggled with temperatures around 120 degrees, they were prepared for the worst—a blizzard. The 400 soldiers from Denmark came to Iraq ready for their mission and equipped with snow shovels, brooms, and a lawnmower. When asked about the Danish equipment, Jess Rasmussen from the Danish Army Operational Command’s material section said, “It’s all part of standard camp equipment.” He added, “It clearly should have been taken out before shipment, but, on the other hand, it makes no harm.”
The one-size-fits-all approach to ministry rarely fits anyone. It is easy to follow standard operating procedures instead of using common sense, or, better yet, uncommon spiritual sense. Instead of continuing to do what we’ve always done, the church would do well to do God-breathed ministry—ministry that is guided by the Spirit and based on the Word of God.
Allot of times we do life with a snow shovel in 120 degree weather.
We can’t do effective ministry in the flesh. If we do we will last long.
We do life without the Spirit of God. And we pack so much unnecessary equipment and life doesn’t require that.
It is essential that we live a God breathed life. A life fulled of The Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is probably the least talked about Person of the Trinity.
The reason The Holy is least talked about because He’s seen as more of a force, or more of a instrument then a Person.
But truthfully we treat God the same way; we treat God like a tool in our tool belt. We use Him when required and put him back our tool belt when He’s not required.
What is the Holy Spirit’s role in creation?
Genesis 1:1 NKJV
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:2 NKJV
2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
This account more then likely is referring to the chaos that was here on earth. The earth before God renovated it and put humanity on it, it was a wasteland, it was void, empty, darkness.
These verses reveal that God did a renovation project on the earth. God took the chaos and corruption on the earth and made it habitable.
The very dark condition on earth are symptomatic of sin and judgement. So it seems like this is dating back to the fall of satan.
It was by the Spirit that the Lord God sovereignly created everything that exists (v. 2b). In the darkness of the chaos the Spirit of God moved to prepare for the effectual creative word of God.
Genesis 1:3 NKJV
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
This is just like the redemptive nature of The Spirit of God. Taking the dark and formless and making it form and making light! Taking chaos and bringing order.
2 Corinthians 4:6 NKJV
6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
The same God that gave light in darkness has shone in our hearts.
The same God that gave light in the chaos is living in our hearts.
The same Spirit that was on the face of the deep is living inside of us.
2 Corinthians 4:7 NKJV
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.
We have this treasure in Jars of Clay. Something seemingly insignificant contrast with something invaluable.
-Gods Spirit will dwell in Jars of Clay people like us.
The Power of God which is the gospel will be spoken in Jars of Clay.
The fact God will use broken people with His Spirit and His word to bring forth healing to people and even a nation is incredible.
2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Psalm 51:10 “10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
Steadfast - firm, fixed , established Spirit within me.
Message Bible - God, make a fresh start in me, shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.
Lord make order out of disorder in my life.
The same power that God used to create every living thing is the same power God is going to use to make you new.
Psalm 33:6 NKJV
6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.
This verse reveals the Trinities role in creation.
The Word referring to Christ.
For without Him was anything made.
The LORD The Father
And the Breath of God referring to His Spirit.
The word for breath in the OT is “Ruach” which can mean wind, breath, and Spirit.
Job 26:13 NKJV
13 By His Spirit He adorned the heavens; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent.
The Helper that abides with you forever.
John 14:16–20 NKJV
16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. 19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.
vs 16 The Helper that abides with us forever.
vs 18 - Orphan - Word coming from the Hebrews word root meaning “to be alone”, or bereaved, Often rendered as fatherlessness, is a person without any legal standing.
Back then kids and women had no legal rights only adults .
He will not leave us alone in the chaos.
God knew the only remedy for man and his chaos was His Spirit.
Thats why Jesus had to leave because The Spirit needed to come and indwell men because of there depravity.
Without Gods Spirit will are not children of God. Without Gods Spirit we are still orphans.
The Spirit of Adoption
Romans 8:15–17 NKJV
15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
Psalm 51:11 NKJV
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Imagine if Gods Spirit was taken way from us.
Imagine God never answering us again.
- He wouldn’t answer us by dream,
- by man or women of God
-No illumination of the scriptures.
-No wisdom from His word.
-No comfort
-No fruits of the Spirit.
Throw me not away as worthless.
Banish me not, like Cain from thy face and favour.
Me and my wife was watching a show called marriage at first site. Its about the people who claim they are looking for love and marriage with someone and they have these experts who supposedly pick the perfect partner for the other.
You see some marriages start of perfect and couldn’t be better . But then begin to spiral and some continue down a very bad place. Then occasionally you would get that one or two whom would make it.
