Introduction

There are certain words that have more power than others.
Some sayings have more value than others. Certain phrases like
I love you
Take care of yourself
It’s okay
Grief is a process
I hate you
I never want to see you again
There are some words that people will say that have so much meaning that we never forget the words that people say. The words people say have power.
The book of John begins in a very different way than other gospels like Matthew that begins with the geneaology. In the beginning, basically John is saying let’s go back, way back, back into time.
This word beginning in this text is a point at the beginning of a duration. Similar to the point made by Paul in 2 Thessalonians 2:13 “But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,”
And in Revelation 1:8 ““I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.””
God’s words have power. Light, darkness, water, animals, human beings would not exist had it not been for the word of God.
Understand that “Word” in these text are not just the words that God says. Word or Message, or title for Christ. Simarly it could read like this. In the beginnng was Jesus and Jesus was with God and Jesus was God.
Philippians 2:6 “who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,”

The Word of God is Timeless

The word of God does not have an expiration date on it. Our words have expiration dates, the word of God does not. “The same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by him, and without him nothing was made.
Life begins and ends with God!
It’s imperative that we understand with God there is life and light. Sure we may live but we truly do not have life without God.
His word will stand forever.
His word stands during bad days.
His word stands during long nights
His word stands during faithful and hopeless times.
Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”
The beauty in God’s word is along with the timelessness of it it is a creative word(in Genesis it was the word of God that created the mountains and the sky).
The word of God is a living word that gives life. It was the word of God that breathed the breath of life in man, and raised the dead.

The Word of God Has Authority

John 1:3 “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
There is nothing on earth that exist without the authoritative word of God allowing it to exist. The word ALL in this text removes the notion that anything can exist outside of the authority of God. All, or each, every, whole, in its totality, complete. This is a definite article meaning it’s referring to anything that has life, has lived or will live.

The Word of God Gives Light

Light is a direct contrast with darkness. In Jesus there is no darkness. Not only can I live in His truth I can live in the truth of my imperfection. Although I am not perfect, the light of God perfects me. I’m made perfect in my weakness because of his strength!
Without Jesus none of this is possible. Ephesians 5: You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of lightWhen we have responded to the light of Jesus it’s time we walk in the light. When I’m walking in a well lit space my steps are more determined, my direction is clearer my ability to move is a lot easier because I can see the obstacles, I can find protection in his blessings!
It makes no sense to walk in a dark way when Jesus has provided a light that no man can put out. Nothing is possible without the word, the word of God has the power to create, restore, rejuvenate and love. Genesis is a declaration that the first thing God created not only brought life to a desolate place, but order to a state of choas.
That’s the God we serve, HIS word has the ability to bring order to any chaos and light to any darkness. His word gives life, life meaning salvation. Because of his word and faith in His word we have a new life. We have a new beginning. In Him all of our sins are forgiven and washed away. Without Him we are on a pathway to condemnation.
Someone has aptly said, “Living without God’s plan for our life is like sewing with a needle without thread, or writing one’s biography with a pen empty of ink.
"I have seen enough of the transforming ability of this word to know that you are behind it. I know, Lord, there are many questions, many areas that I do not understand about this book, and take it by faith that it is your word and believe it and preach it as your word and trust that you will make clear to me what it means." - Ray Stedman
