Night is coming
John 9:3 ESV
Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.
John 9:4 ESV
We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.
There is a difference between doing a work for God and God working through you.
Think about it…
When you work for someone you have options…
You don’t have to go to work.
You don’t have to give 100%
You have the choice to go the extra mile
Work hard for the promotion
You can speak and you have the choice to not speak!
Doing a work for someone can carry a sense of entitlement…
Sometimes will feel like people need us.
If I don’t want to do something I’m not going to do it.
Now when you own the business....
It is oftentimes much different…
You are hustling
You don’t produce you don’t eat.
You don’t want employees taking advantage of the system you put into place.
You care about your equipment because you understand the value of what you have!
We have put so much pressure on people working in ministry
Giving money for the ministry
Inviting people to church
Until it became a duty / obligation / a job / routine
Think about this for the majority, we don’t even spend more that 120min at church a week.
Then people feel burnout, but why are you feeling this way.
Is it really over the 120min or is it over what you do M-S that makes you feel like you need a break on Sunday.
Here’s another problem… When you can’t hire staff, you put a part time or full time load on a person who has a full time and family.
Then the church wanted to make people feel guilty for feeling overwhelmed.
The church wanted people to work for the church but did’t teach, I am the Church.
I feel like we have focused on Sunday services and events but not everyday life.
(Example of doing a work for God)
I am not doing a work for God and God doesn’t work for me.
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 ESV
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
I am God’s property
I am chosen
Jesus bought us with a price
Colossians 1:13–14 ESV
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Romans 6:16–18 ESV
Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.
When I understand the God is working through me....
Everything changes
(Example)
