Who Am I

2 Timothy 4:1-18

Nathan Smith – Hillcrest Baptist Church

February 4, 2007

Introduction: As a Christian it is imperative for us to not only understand the call, but to understand the calling. By that I mean the focus of our mission. The battle plan is only as good as the ones who follow it. If your expectations or focus is redirected so will you effectiveness. Satan is a master at not necessarily stopping us completely, but rather redirecting our efforts into meaningless and wasteful ways that deviate from the original plan in order to frustrate and demoralize us until we quite. We must stay focused and directed in all our efforts in order to win the prize.

I.                   Understand Your Strength/Power

a.       Paul is confirming Timothy’s original call to service – Let there be no doubt in your calling, the spirit will confirm it undoubtedly in you.

b.      We have a Christian heritage – our testimony is ages old, with evidence scanning generations both past and present.

c.       The Spirit is of POWER

-          Fear

-          Timidity

-          Weakness

-          Hatred is from Satan. Not God

II.                  Understand the Purpose of your Strength/ Power

a.       It is given for a reason – it is not to be humbly run over as we kneel at the alter of passivism. BE BOLD not arrogant

b.      You will suffer for what is right, it’s OK

III.             Understand the Mission
