I sometimes reflect on the traits that make us different than other animals in the universe. The idea of the future, of our position in it and our ability to conceptualize being in a better place than we are now are uniquely human, at least as far as I can tell. God has placed this within our hearts and minds. To know where we are, and to desire to be in a better way. In fact, when we see this loss of desire in folks, we generally see it accompanied by a decline in many ways, and this is even a precursor to the loss of the will to live.
