Introduction
Introduction
Often in Church we talk about all of the ways that we must obey God. We talk about the things that we have to do, how we honor God. We either talk about this or we talk about eternal things. How Jesus died on the cross to save us from eternal damnation. This is a good scare tactic and effects people at their core. Playing on their biggest fears. But how often do we talk about what God can do for us in the present. What he does for us now. Sure when we accept him our sins are immediately forgiven. but how does God work in our immediate lives?
We are told today that Jesus Christ enriches our lives. But what does that mean? Have you or do you know have that one person who just makes your life better. You are better, happier, stronger because that person is in your life.
God is the eternal embodiment of this. when we make Jesus the Lord of our lives we are told that our lives are made richer, or enriched, because of our relationship with him. But how does he do that, in what ways does Jesus enrich our lives? Our passage today tells us just how we are enriched through our relationship with God.
Enriched in Speech
Enriched in Speech
For in him you have been enriched in every way—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge—
With out Christ our speech is lacking
We gossip
We condem
We tear down
With Christ our speech is edifying
When we speak with Christ’s power we are able to instruct through the power of the Spirit
We are able to help other Christians grow in Christ
We are able to lead others to Christ through just what we say
With Christ our speech is uplifting
When we have Christ we speak words of encouragement
When we have Christ we speak kind words
With Christ our speech is glorifying
When we have Christ every word we speak is one that glorifies God
He Enriches our speech because he changes our heart Matthew 15.11
What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”
Enriched in Knowledge
Enriched in Knowledge
Earthly knowledge is limited
There is only so much we has humans can understand
There is knowledge that out mortal minds can not comprehend
God’s knowledge is powerful
Jesus combats the devil in the desert with knowledge
He uses his knowledge of scripture
Jesus uses knowledge to lead people to him
He reads from the scroll of Isaiah in the synagogue
We can use knowledge the knowledge God gives us to combat evil in our lives
Evil desires
Evil thoughts
Evil actions
God’s knowledge is ethereal
God’s knowledge helps us to understand spiritual matters
Things that are not of this world
“What about angles and demons, good and evil.”
God’s knowledge is eternal
Our limited understanding goes away and we look at things in eternal ways.
That is why Paul says in Romans 5:3
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;
Enriched in the Spirit
Enriched in the Spirit
There is a lot we cannot do on our own
We can’t be completely good on our own
We can’t follow God’s will on our own
We can’t be fully worship God on our own
The Spirit gives us the power to be holy
We are told to be holy because God is holy but in our broken conditions our choices are almost always unholy
The Spirit give us the power to do God’s will
given the choice we will alway choose our selves
The spirit gives us the power to choose others
The Spirit gives us the power to worship God
Our propensity is to worship self
We are granted the power to worship God through the Spirit
Enriched in Strength
Enriched in Strength
Our strength is fleeting
We may be strong when we are young but as we get older our strength wanes
Our physical strength
Our metal strength
Our emotional Strength
The Spirit gives us physical strength
Samson
Paul 2 Corinthians 12:7-9
or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
The Spirit gives us mental strength
When we allow him the will keep our minds strong,
He helps us to focus
He helps us to learn
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
The Spirit gives us emotional strength
God is our ever present help
He gives us a peace that passes all understanding
He gives us comfort when we mourn
He gives us patience when we are in need
In all things Spirit gives us emotional strength.
Conclusion
Conclusion
While this does not mean that our lives will be perfect when we accept Christ and surrender to the Holy Spirit all of our hardships disappear, remember we still live in a broken world. What this does mean is that God will walk through all of the trials of our lives with us. And if we have faith God will give us a new perspective. Let us pray.
