This Week’s Theme: God is Fulfilling His Plan
This Week’s Word is Providence: The continuing and often unseen activity of God in sustaining his universe, providing for the needs of every creature, and preparing for the completion of his eternal purposes.
Memory Verse: Romans 8:28 “28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
Essence of the Text in a Sentence: After years removed from the dreams given by God of his future, Joseph sees his brothers bowing before him and remembers.
Sermon Proposition: After making through your obstacle or difficulty in life, will you remember what God said?
Sermon Objective: I want those in attendance make a list of the struggles they have faced and life as a Christian and than make a list of what God said He would do for His children.
Sermon Text: Genesis 42:8-9
Genesis 42:8–9 NKJV
8 So Joseph recognized his brothers, but they did not recognize him. 9 Then Joseph remembered the dreams which he had dreamed about them, and said to them, “You are spies! You have come to see the nakedness of the land!”
INTRODUCTION:

I. DESPITE THE OBSTACLES OF LIFE

Genesis 37:5, 8, 11, 18-20, 24; 39:19-20; 40:23.

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Hated by his siblings

Genesis 37:5 “5 Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more.”

His Siblings Wanted him dead

Genesis 37:18-20 “18 Now when they saw him afar off, even before he came near them, they conspired against him to kill him. 19 Then they said to one another, “Look, this dreamer is coming! 20 Come therefore, let us now kill him and cast him into some pit; and we shall say, ‘Some wild beast has devoured him.’ We shall see what will become of his dreams!””

Thrown into a pit

Genesis 37:24 “24 Then they took him and cast him into a pit. And the pit was empty; there was no water in it.”

Sold into slavery

Genesis 37:28 “28 Then Midianite traders passed by; so the brothers pulled Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. And they took Joseph to Egypt.”

Sold again into slavery

Genesis 37:36 “36 Now the Midianites had sold him in Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard.”

Thrown into prison

Genesis 39:19-20 “19 So it was, when his master heard the words which his wife spoke to him, saying, “Your servant did to me after this manner,” that his anger was aroused. 20 Then Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison.”

Forgotten

Genesis 40:23 “23 Yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.”

II. GOD ORCHESTRATED THE EVENTS

Deuteronomy 8:18 NKJV
18 “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
Conclusion: A concluding statement to recapture interest (a reason to remember).
