The Reality of life in the flesh is unquestioned

Paul’s choice
++To live by the flesh
++To live by this faith
By his faith I know
++He loves me
++He gave himself for me

Caution over common things

No temptation has overtaken you..

What does it mean to be overtaken?

13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

What are the temptations in your life?

Are you tempted?
++To read your Bible
++To Pray
++To help someone in need

We want our temptations to be special

They are
++Common things
++No different from others
James 4:1–3 NKJV
1 Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? 2 You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.
Regardless of one’s spiritual state, we all share the same tendencies.

We are tempted by Disagreements

From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
Disagreement
++Says I want it my way

We are tempted by our Dependence

(2b)—ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. What a tragedy revealed here.
Depended on the flesh
++Can only satisfy short term gain
++Is limited
++Doesn’t desire the things of God
If we are to possess what we truly need, we will have to ask of God.
Matthew 6:33 NKJV
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
We are tempted by our Disgrace
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

Don’t remove God’s grace

God’s Grace
++Unmerited favor
++Undeserved benevolence
++God’s empowerment toward His purpose
1 Corinthians 15:10 NKJV
10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
