The Crucial Component in this study will be to see the need to shift from mere “Imitating Christ” to developing a “stronger relationship in Christ.” You could call it “Living from the Inside Out”.

Intro:

Disney produced movies over the years that our kids loved watching over and over. One was called “The Aristocats” and another “101 Dalmatians”.
The animals act like humans and all of the animals had names. Its interesting how the name of the animal was descriptive of what type of dog it was given to.
What we find is that Names often reveal one’s character, position, or job.
Let me throw out a few for you and see if you agree.
O’ Reliable
Rock of Gibraltar
Atlas
Hercules
Godiva
Judas
Delilah
Jezebel
Satan

Here is One More name...
GOD?
We may say that we know God because of a feeling or a situation—but I think we learn from Father when we see his character on display. Usually that character has a NAME to go with it it!
Such as…
Jehovah Rapha (the Lord that Heals)
Jehovah Shalom (the Lord of Peace)
Jehovah Emet (the Lord who is Faithful)
LAST WEEK
God was faithful to Jacob despite his deceitfulness.
God is still faithful today even to Jacob’s Children despite their disobedience.
(Why? Because of God’s covenant to Jacob’s Family— Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Moses… AND YOU.
How? By Faith! We have entered into a blood covenant and God takes that very seriously)
So, knowing Father’s Names teach us and reveal to us His character.
God is faithful and because he is faithful he is also trustworthy.
This Trustworthiness is the stepping stone to days lesson.
WE can trust Him too.
BUT, CAN WE TRUST THE GOD OF A NEW YEAR?
New Year… Same God!
second line in our song “Same God” says...
“…Calling on the God of Moses,
The one who opened up the ocean
I need You now to do the same thing for me”
In what area of your life to you needs to see the Waters Part?
Over and over God met the needs of the people of Israel as Moses led them out of Egypt and into the promised land.
Water
Manna
Cloud by day
Pillar of Fire by night
There clothes grew with them. WOW!
GOD HAD IT ALL FIGURED OUT… HE WAS THEIR PROVIDER!
God has always been that Provider even with Abraham.
Genesis 22:13–14 NLT
13 Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. 14 Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”
Jehovah Jireh or Yireh — He’ll answer to both:-)
Let’s look at three passages today as we take a glance at our Father Provider in ways—our Shepherd and our Gardener.
When we jump into this passages keep looking and asking yourself how do you see Father as being your...
Provider
Trustworthy
Adequate
Generous
Fair
Steadfast
Wealthy
Concerned
Satisfying
Giving
If you feel that Father is lacking in these areas then you may need to ask him to help you develop new sight to see him more clearly through the Word of God.
FATHER PROVIDER: is a person who supports a family.
FATHER SHEPHERD
Psalm 23 NLT
A psalm of David. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. 2 He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. 3 He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. 4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. 5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. 6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.
Father Gardener
Isaiah 58:11 NLT
11 The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.
Matthew 6:25–34 NLT
25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? 28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? 31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. 34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
He is the SAME GOD as he was then as he is now!
the Bible says...
Hebrews 13:8 NLT
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
and Jesus said...
John 14:9 NLT
9 Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you?
It is time to TRUST OUR FATHER PROVIDER—GOD!
Quote:
“The same grace that saves you sustains you. If God’s grace is strong enough to get you to heaven—it is surely able to get you through today.”
-Louie Giglio
Closing
We had the opportunity to go see a 3D movie yesterday—Wow!
Here is what the bag says....
It’s time to put on your 3D Glasses
Claim your cupholder.
Crack open the Candy
and put your phone on silent.
It’s time to DISCONNECT from this World
and DISCOVER another!
Which World do you want to DISCOVER?
If it’s God’s world then you will have to put on His Glasses and look through His eyes so you can disconnect from this world that we are passing through.
SCRIPTURAL PRAYER FOR PROVISION
Foursquare Booklet
Consider the scripture and consider the prayer
very appropriate during this time of Prayer and Fasting!
REMEMBER:
Philippians 3:20–21 NLT
20 But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. 21 He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.
